Are the superchips, etc computer tuners worth the money?

I am looking at Summit and there are three different ones that are supposed to work with my Hemi truck. They are listing that they can free up from 57 to 100 hp, and improve mpgs my 2. I doubt both, but either/or would be cool.

Also, it turns off the high speed limiter.

At $380, they would pay themselves off after about 10 tanks by saving me gas mileage, if they actually work.

Anyone have any experience with these? Any one brand better than the other, Hypertech, Superchips, Diablosport?

I have a Superchips tuner on my Ford Powerstroke and it makes a difference. I seriously doubt you will 57 to 100 hp on a gas engine with a tuner. I would guess more likely 10-15hp

What about the gas mileage? Any improvements there?

Yes there are improvements if you keep your foot out of it, but that is no fun. There are a number of mileage specific programmers on the market but I don't have any experience with them.

The programmers change not only engine settings but shift points in your transmissions too making it a more efficent setup. Hypertech makes a really good unit I have a buddy running a bulleydog on his dodge and that works really good. Also my brother is running an edge on his F150 and the power and fuel economy improvents is noticeable.

It's also worth mentioning that for some reason there's a wider margin of gain from these things when used on a diesel.

The biggest things the tuners do is make the available horsepower usable. Unfortunately if you put things like a performance intake, bigger throttle body, injectors, headers ect ect you might see some marginal gains but unfortunately the ECU will run the motor to the stock specs. It will give it the same ammount of fuel as a stock motor, it will adjust it according to the stock air/fuel mix adjusting the timing ect to match the stock motor it will give it the stock shift points basically it will be an expensive stock motor...
But put all that stuff on and put it with an chip that you can customise your tune to match your components and all sorts of hidden power and fuel economy will show up. (y)
