I want to start up a list of wheels and tires that work on our cars. This list should be very helpful for those new to our cars or just want a new look. Plus it will narrow down the list of wheels and tires you can use and save some confussion. Please list (doesn't have to be in this order) : Wheel name and tire name Wheel size and tire size backspacing any modifications made in order for them to fit ( such as spacers, fender lip roll, etc.) lastly any comments and if you have some sort of link or anything that would also help. I installed BF Goodrich TA Radials on my 74 Grabber with Cragger SS Rims. 15 X 8 275 X 50 X 15 on rear with 4 1/4" backspacing. 15 X 7 215 X 60 X 15 on front with 4 1/4" backspacing. I really love these wheels & tires.
While this is a good idea, it has been tried lots of times and we've discovered lots of variance between our cars, even of the same year and all. For example, the above combination would absolutely not fit my car. I run the same size rear tire, but with 3 3/4" backspacing on an 8" wheel I have very little clearence between the tire and the spring. My slicks are on wheels with 4" BS and just kiss the springs around corners. Grabber71 runs 295/50r15 with no rubbing issues on his car and T.L. if I remember can't run anything bigger that a 255 (my apologies if I remember incorrectly.)
I agree that mass production tolerances on cars will make a difference with fitment from car to car when you start talking about stuffing as much tire as possible... You also have to consider the tolerances with mass production rims and tires, as well as the fact that different manufacturers have different standards for measurement. Tires too... Check out the technical specs on tires. One brand of (fill in any tire size here) will measure totally different width/sidewall/diameter than another brand of the same exact size. Not huge differences, don't get me wrong, but often as much as .5". That's enough to make or break a rim/tire package on our cars. My .02 Dave
I totally understand were you guys are coming from and see what you mean. But I would like to keep this thread going just as for those people shopping, just like me and need some help. So let me add a disclaimer :WHEELS AND TIRES MAY ACTUALLY NOT FIT "YOUR" CAR. If need be I'll just delete the thread. Thanks for pointing that out because that's news to me and something everybody should know so thanks you two.
I have stock 14x6 rims, 3.5" BS. 215/70/14 front 245/60/14 rear All tires are just under 26" tall. The 245s look very nice on the stock 6" rim. The slapper bars on my 75 had to have the sharp points ground off where they were close to the tires. They put grooves in the first set of 245s. I would like to try 15x5s up front, with no more than 3" BS. Out back I would like to try some 15x7s with 4" to 4.25" BS and 255/60/15s. I hope this helps someone or gives ideas... Dave

i would like to see this continued. Just to get an idea what every one has on their car a picture with the sizes would be great
anyone put a 235-60-15 up front? i hear the 255-60 on some mavs rub...but wasnt sure if that was due to it being on 8in wide rather then 5 or wornout springs/shocks
I'm sure most of you have found this page already, but if you go into the "street/strip" section and "restomod" section, they usually give you the wheel and tire sizes that they used. Hey ya'll, Just got a question for you. I swaped my 4 lug drums for 5 lugs, But I still can only find 14's for the front. That would be alright with me, but I am going to leave the six cylinder springs under the front. I'm just affraid it would set the frontend too low. Do I have to go to 5 lug disc to run 15's on the front. Or put V8 springs under the front.
you may have to upgrade yore 14s to 15s if you're going with front discs as for the springs, it depends on the size of the 6 and what height tire you're going with the 250 i6 has the same springs as the 302 so if you're going to drop a 302 in and have a 200 engine you may want to upgrade the springs for a 225 60 or larger..215-60 15 should be fine
I'd like to see more of this too! I think it is important for many of us, as we are building the "LOOK" of our car around the wheels and tires. So in addition to just saying what you have/use . . . I want to see pics (at least a side view with the specs following)
