yeah for some reason the car wouldnt hit the rev limiter with the big cam and the wastegate open when it was in nuetral, it does it fine now it did much better this time i am happy with that time
No sir, I did not forget, you have missed the whole point. The ingenuity and innovation's, can be from a safety or a performance issue. It is still what "real gear head's" are all about. Anyone can buy a car and have someone else build it, which is great for those you have no mechanical abilities or other reason's. But for us who grew up with wrench's and grease in our hand's, we still like working on our own stuff, as long as we can. As for me, I grew up in that era of build your own and drive it too. I am still at it today, a little slower but living by this sacred rule "Get Er Done" And without goofy gas(NOS)
Some of the younger generation still believes that...I do, and my sons will too...NOS is cheating, if you dont know how to build a powerful motor without having to spray then you have no place turning wrenches. Ive seen tons of people on youtube brag about their car winning races by using NOS...I dont see where thats a legitimate win, especially if the other car doesnt have the advantage...its a cheat, and should be considered a "Handicap Win" if your car isnt fast enough to win with brute force alone when the other car doesnt use NOS.
I would have to say that the 2.3 in a Maverick...is a great project with a great outcome! I am impressed. 26 psi...is NOTHING for that HE351 turbo. One I had would bounce a 40 psi gauge when the WG hose came off (rigged hose....don't ask). I think they'll actually do about 60 psi, but they get a little inefficient, especially on a gas burner (diesels are slightly different). Impressive little engines for sure. I've had a couple. For those who say "why"....let me tell you from first hand experience. Even though they may not make the low end off idle torque that a V8 does, they make up for it with a "hit" similar to a 2 stroke motorcross bike. That, in itself, is pure FUN to me. That engine (the 2.3) even with a stock crank, stock pistons, and stock rods can be spun to about 8000 RPM and last a good while. It's still a good idea to put a set of good rods in there but I believe it was Flanders (can't remember the name for sure....) was making around 700 HP out of a 2.3, at 10,000+ rpm. I believe it went deep in the 8's, IIRC. So these little "junk 4 cylinder" engines have huge potential. Only downside is that they are expensive. Cost more to make a 400 HP 2.3 than it does to build a 400 HP 302. But the 2.3 is more fun, IMO. And different. Oh, BTW, I wasn't aware that an LA3 ECM cut fuel at 6500? I thought it was 6250? Been a while since I had my SVO (it had a LA3). My Merkur was also 6250. PF3 ECU.
Agreed! Got my street car in the high 6's without the gas, and running a 4 speed. A lot of the racers have to come check it out just to make sure. I just love the old school look and feel. I may not win much but I sure am having fun when I go. maverick88tc...your car is very impressive! Congrats on a great ride!
it may be 6250 i dont have a tach in the car yet, yeah i hate that the car has a nos kit on it because everyone thinks i am spraying it
Cutting some decent times with the ol 2.3.. I'm a huge fan of the 2.3 Turbo cars. I have had 2 Fox Mustang swaps and have a few friends as well that have done it. I have a good friend of mine that runs in the mid 7's (in the 1/8th) in his 2.3 FI Turbo powered Pinto. It makes 450~ to the wheels with a Holset, custom cam and ported head work. Sweet car. Sounds like you got spanked by some NOS BTW I have never had NOS on any car(except for a few runs just to see) but i do not see it as cheating and does not make excuses.... If so then anything that adds power is cheating.... 15 to 1 comp ratio.....thats cheating... Turbo....Cheating Super charger.....cheating... After Market heads.....Cheating..... Big cam.....Cheating.... Stroker crank...cheating... In the end what matters is a real racer lines up and runs, win lose ,or draw!!!

I think you mean John Blair...his engine was stroked to 2.8 liters, but still impressive: The other 2.3 slaying on the dragstrip these days belongs to John Huber (also a stroked 2.3...2.9 liters): I'm thinking of changing my first name to John just to go quicker
