My buddy wrecked his '97 Honda Prelude this past Sunday. 90+ mph into a sharp corner, lost it, slid 370 feet (according to the cops) before bouncing off some trees. When he told me what happened, I was expecting serious carnage. Got to hand it to Honda, the car held up pretty well for the speeds involved here.

We pulled all the twisted metal and crap off today, cut the power steering belt off and got the alternator all straightened out and got it running. It's not charging the battery though for some reason, got to figure that out. Pics are before we started tearing crap off, was too dark to get pics when we were done. Tried to drive it, but the CV axle is pulled out of the transmission. Going to make an attempt to get it drivable tomorrow, jerk everything around a bit on it and rig some lights and stuff on it, it's his only vehicle. Then the search is on for an older Prelude hatch body to swap everything over to, or his room mate has an older CRX we were eyeballing swapping the H22/5 speed into. That would be fun. :thumbs2:

More pics to come in the next couple of days on what we're able to rig up for lights and stuff. He has to drive it to work Friday morning. :rofl2: It seems like the frame is still relatively straight, though the fender apron and core support took a good beating.

Why was he going 90+ on a corner? Lol good he is not seriously hurt. That being his only vehicle you have to feel bad for him hope you get him running again.

Gawga boys. Surprised yall know how to back out yer own drive way. :16suspect :rofl2:

Bummer though. Good thing the tree glanced the side. A full front impact coulda killed him.

I have no idea why he was going that fast. I feel very bad for him. This same guy had his '99 F150 4X4 catch fire last year and burn to the ground while he was on lunch break. He had just finished doing a body lift and putting some nice wheels and big tires on it. Faulty cruise control switch on the master cylinder caused it to catch fire (common problem on those trucks). Insurance of course totaled that, and he used the money to buy a Toyota Tundra. Didn't like the Tundra, and traded it to his brother for this Prelude after a short while.

Does his insurance not cover this?

More impressive is my younger brother decided to take a left 90 degree curve right exceeding 90mph......His car rolled and witnesses said he came out the sun roof and flew over one 30 ft tall pine tree and smashed into another....:biglaugh:

It's true being drunk does save you from injuries. He sustained a broken collar bone and a few bruised ribs, scrapes and bruises....

In all honesty I would venture to say if he stayed in the car he would have died. No set belt car rolled over 20 times....

    God has to be real.....:Handshake

One thing is for certain, he couldn't have hit a tree doing 90 unless it was just a glancing blow. A head on impact at 90 would disintegrate any car. He is very lucky. Hopefully he'll realize that and slow down now.

My buddy didn't have a sea tbelt on either! Heck, the air bags didn't even come out for some reason.

It was doing 90 when it left the road, but he slid over 300 feet with the brakes locked up (and it was dry out!), I'm sure it was going considerably slower when it hit the tree. He said the tree hit right in the left headlight area, and when it caught the front wheel, it ripped the steering wheel wheel right out of his hands (and I assume that's when the CV axel got jerked out as well). Car spun around and the right rear caught another tree. It was a 2 lane road where he wrecked, heavily wooded on either side in most areas. Very lucky he ran off the road where he did, any other place it would have been directly into a tree...

It was from all that horsepower gained from that cold air intake. :rofl2:

Did your buddy say he was going 90 or the cops?

Either way, not smart to be going that fast, and he's very lucky he hit where he did.

I don't feel the least bit sorry for him however

Agreed, I read somewhere that the probability of surviving a crash over 80mph is less then 10%, he got very lucky.

He never gave the cops a straight up answer on how fast he was going. But with the length of the skid marks, it was pretty obvious...
