My redneck trailer

So I've got this old '68 F100 I bought a few years ago for $75 for parts. I actually had the truck running and drove it around some before snatching the engine and trans out to put in my '71 F250. Then I just shoved it off into a corner where it sat for about 5 years up until today. I was going to scrap this thing last summer when scrap prices were up because it's just an udder piece of $#!t, but decided I wanted to get the 9 inch out from under it first, so it kept sitting and I never got around to it. I saw someone dragging an trailer down the road the other day made from an old truck bed, and my first thought was man, that's white trash. Then my second thought was, hey, I have everything to build one of those my self.

So today, I drug the old '68 F100 out of the weeds, flipped it on it's side and cut the cab off. These pics were after I spent 2 hours cleaning out the massive amount of beer cans, wine and vodka bottles that the previous owner had tossed in the bed, along with a couple of engines and transmissions and other misc junk I had tossed in there over the past few years. What you see in the bottom of that bed is a nice mixture of alcohol, motor oil and dirt and dead leaves. The distinct smell of alcohol is still very noticeable. I plan to haul it to a car wash and pressure wash the bed out.

Then, after pulling the drive shaft, hacking through the bolts holding the cab on, and hacking off what was left of the exhaust with my sawzall:

Then my camera went dead, and I wasn't about to stop what I was doing to go drive 15 miles to the nearest gas station to get some batteries. But anyway, got the cab off and pulled the rolling frame with bed still on it up onto the car dolly and strapped it down. Since my neighbors would have a heart attack if I came dragging this thing into this uppity neighborhood I live in, I'm going to wait until Friday morning to go back up to NC and drag it back down to the little metal fabrication shop I work at part time to cut it up and make it into a trailer. Pics of that to come Friday night hopefully.

 

cool me and my dad built one out of a 70's F-100 when I was about 12. We cut all the cab and front end off. We left about 4 feet of frame in front of the bed I believe. we then pushed the 2 frame rails together and has a piece of 3x3 box tubing in the center with the hitch bolted to it. We never really used it though. Good luck on the project.

I was at a state park one time and seen a trailer like that with a HUGE cab over camper on it , just cruzing thru the park it was rocking left and right, I don't know how far he had to drive but I bet he had lots of room around him on the highway!

 

That's my favorite body style. Maybe you could paint the trailer the same as your F250 and pull it with it.

From the pics, the cab didn't look too bad. Is that a sunroof hole I see?

Why do you need a trailer when you have a pick-up?? How much stuff you gonna haul around??

Then, I guess it would be the acme of foolishness to ask why it was rolled on the good side then?

You guys are from Canada and California... This is a Southern thing. Let me try to explain it. See, it doesn't matter why, or if he needs a trailer. What he's got here is a reason to roll a truck over on purpose. And now he has to follow through on his plan of making a trailer, else this goes from being a perfectly normal Bubba operation to being more of a Cletus style thing.
