I have only done brief ( not that kind) searches and can't find it, so prpbobly not. I did see alot of info on deaths caused by pto's. Those were on the bigger farming tractors tho. Your tractor has got me looking again now that I see there may be hope to find that unique piece of equipment. I was told (3 years ago) by a Kumho(?) dealer that there was no such thing of what you have, "a rideing lawn mower with a PTO".
For the PTO style you are looking for look for a simplicity sunstar or a deutz allice like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Deutz-Allis-tractor-w-Mower-Loader-Snowblower-Cab_W0QQitemZ170348864132QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item27a9956284&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A6|72%3A1205|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A2|294%3A25
Those are nice, but it's kind of hard to justify spending $1,000+ for an engine to put on a tractor that MIGHT be worth $400. So, it'll be getting this engine, which is $0, because we already have it, and it runs excellent. The parts mower, which has a messed up transaxel: It'll also be donating it's front tires (and wheels, if the axle diameter is the same), and newish looking battery and cables. We'll have to get new rear tires, because these aren't the right size.
Can I see the steering gear under the tank? I need that piece if it's the same AND if you'll sell it.
18 x 9.50 - 8 My grandpa wants whats left of this tractor, so I don't really want to part it out any more then is needed to get the Allis Chalmers going. He has somewhat of a little lawn tractor junkyard after years and years of wearing out mowers cutting his fields. He has two pretty similar to this one, one has a good 18 horse horizontally opposed twin cylinder briggs on it, and the other has a good transaxle, and he has an old Murray with good front wheels and tires, so we'll probably end up piecing this thing back together since it is in pretty good shape. I'll get a pic of the one on the other tractor he has like this for you this weekend if I go up there. Anyway, engine is out of the Rally, going to have to swap the pulleys around on the engines. Pulley came right off the 12.5 horse, the old 8 horse pulley is giving me a hard time, so I soaked it in PB Blaster and called it a night. I'll soak it again when I head out for work in the morning, and hopefully a few good whacks with a rubber mallet will get it off tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully will be able to get the engine on and running, and get the electrical stuff sorted out tomorrow evening as well.
Engine is in and the electrical seems to be all working, though I haven't tried to start it yet because it got to late and don't want to piss the neighbors off. Traced the electrical to a bad safety switch that is designed to not allow the tractor to start with the PTO engaged. The switch is corroded up, no continuity through it. Bypassed it and the thing came to life and the engine cranks over. Need to get a new muffler, rework the oil drain tube so that it clears the clutch pedal, clean the gas tank out, new fuel line and filter, new spark plug and clean and oil the air filter. Hopefully get it to move under it's own power tomorrow. It's going back to Terry Friday and the only thing it should need at that point is tires and a new belt for the deck.
Did you happen to look at the blades? Might need sharpen or replace. Don't want to engage them if bent or something. I just did this to my moms. She is the one who needs that steering gear. It's still intact but it looks like it will break any time.
Blades are rusty and need to be sharpened but they aren't bent or anything. Here's a pic of that steering gear. I've decided I'm going to go another route and use this thing for parts to fix up an old Murray riding mower I have. If you want the steering gear, let me know.
That Murray is a 1981 model that racked up more then 12,000 hours of run time over the years. It's made out of heavier gauge steel then the newer ones are and is pretty stout.
