My dad has a 92 corolla. It is an auto tranny and it broke the pinion gear in the tranny. My dad bought another 92 corolla that has trashed to get the tranny out of. The previous owners decided to cut all wires and aluminum out of it. On the tranny there is a small metal wire that goes into the tranny and they cut it. I believe it is the kickdown cable but not sure. We still have the tranny from the good car and are wondering if it is possible to swap the hole assembly. You can still see the cable since it is pulled out and it still works but the cable has been cut. Any help would be apreciated since we would like to get this car out of the shop
I recently swapped that same transmission in a Celica, and I think you're right about that being the kickdown or TV cable. I believe you have to pull the pan to get to the other end of it and swap your good cable onto it.
Good luck with it... That was a pretty big job replacing the trans in that car. Everything's in there so tight. The only way I could get it out cleanly was to support the engine in such a way that I could easily raise or lower it a bit, take off the top and front mounts. The rear mount won't fully come off with the trans in the car, just pull the center bolt. Have to take it out with the trans rocked towards the front and tilted a bit to the driver's side. Has to go in that way too, get the rear mount lined up first then swing it around. Trans jack is a must of course...
they are definately made tight. On his car we ended up having to take the whole front suspension out to get the tranny out. We have a piece of box tubing ran across to hold the engine up. On the parts car we just took the whole front carriage out.
Sure does, I've had my tranny in and aout 3 times now, 1st was wrong flexpklate, then wrong motor plate and I finally got it right on the 3rd time
