im being given one and know nothing about it beyond its coming out of a truck. anyone have info or parts sources?
It's an FE Ford and you can easily find parts at any parts house. You can increase the cubic inches with crankshafts from the larger engines but the bore is 4" so you will have to select pistons and rods to make it all work. 332, 352, 390, 427 and 428 are all based on the same block but bores range from 4" to around 4.125. The 390 is 4.050" so if you want to bore it to .050 over you can make a 390 out of it and put the largest stroke crank in it for more inches.
I know a couple of guys with big Fords that run the original 352s, and they run fine.....but they're gas hogs and not real peppy like their bigger, high performance FE brothers. Performance-wise most people consider them boat anchors....never seen or heard of anyone "building" one for any kind of performance use, it'd be easier to just go hunt down a 390 of you wanted to build up an FE, or update to a 429/460. Due to the 352's outdated age, unless you were going for "period correct" they wouldn't even be the best truck motor, when you could go 460 alot cheaper, easier to find parts for and alot more cubes and torque. Basically, small block cubic inches with big block size, weight and gas milage. However, if it's a complete and good running engine, and you've got an old truck or big Ford car to put it in,....well, there's no real downside to a good, free engine. '
Good answer. They also, are not a drop in motor in a maverick/comet... but Im sure he knew that. They are good running motors, and parts have become reproduced a lot in the last 10 years. When I built mine back in 2002ish there was very limited performance parts
All I know is my 360 was a total boat anchor. I was happy the day it finally spit a rod out the side of the block. No power, and drank gas like crazy.
Didnt they put 352s in galaxies also??? http://www.collectorcarmarket.com/content/profiles/ford_6264/62-64Fordxl.htm
I had a 390 in my 69 f-100. It has a performer rpm intake, headers and holley carb. It was weak and not impressive, I believe the maverick with the 250 could have gave it a good run
This is what's funny about FE's most of the low c.i. one's are dogs, but 427's and 428's are great motors, especially when put in something light like a Fairlane or an AC Ace
Yea, I laugh when they say they are turds. Sure they are more cubic inches, but look at what they are usually in when people say that. Usually 3/4 ton 4x4 trucks that most likely had 3.00 gears or higher. Of course they are turds. So would a 289/302 in the same vehicle. They werent the most powerful engines by any means in stock form (unless you got the GT models or the 427/428) but they do have potential
If you know how to toon the old FE engines, they all have good torque, even if lacking Hp.I have had a lot of them and i loved playing with them.
