I'm going to pick up another parts car soon, and someone has swapped the 8 inch out for a rearend from a 1950 Ford (car, I assume). This rearend was a direct bolt in into the Maverick, looks like it was meant to be there. It has a removable center section like a later 8 or 9 inch. Anyone know what kind of rear it is? Is it good for anything besides a boat anchor?
They make a great door stopper...or you can put it on the garbage can lid to keep the wind from blowing it off.
Im not sure what it is, but if its in run-able or rebuildable shape, it's worth something, especially if it looks like it's meant to be there. All else fails, it'd be a direct replacement if you ever broke a rearend or found a parts car that didn't have a rearend at all.
It may not be stock to the 50, if it is its not what your needing, I did right the opposite with my 55 ford, put a Monarch rear end under it, it spring pads were about 1/4 in off on each side but even the ebrake cables hooked up, on the 50 the brake shoe pads are about an in wide, lol, plus the ujiont actualy fits inside the pinion with a flat plate (no ubolts), out on the ground beside the monarch rearend it was much smaller and lighter
I don't really care about it either way, I'm getting the car for other parts on it, I was just curious. The way I understand it, a previous owner had bought the car for the drive train, took the 302/C4 and 8 inch out and put it in a '50 Ford, then just slapped the original rear out of the '50 back under the Maverick so it would roll. The rearend is clean and nice looking (no rust on it), and I'm sure it's probably in working condition, but who knows. It is a direct bolt in (don't know about the E brake cables though), lug pattern is the same and everything. I was just thinking about using it behind a stock 250/T5 in my daily beater if it's got anything better then a 3.00 gear in it.
Searched Google, and it doesn't look anything like that rear. Has no removable rear cover, has the drop out front center section.
Nice enough pic, I am wondering also, I saw the 50 ford it came out of but that doesnt mean it was stock to that car.
That might be an 50's Olds rear. IIRC, they were made like that, with the drop out center section. Lots of drag cars ran them before the 9" Ford became common.
