Does anyone on here have one. I am wanting to get one when I finish school. It would be used as a daily driver and might pull a racecar on an open trailer. Some of my friends have them and I want one bad. Does anyone have any advice. My idea is to try and find a low mileage one with no mods. My thoughts is if they are stock they should be in better shape

The first generation trucks were the best trucks. The second were by far the best performance vehicle. I myself wouldnt own another second generation one but, id advise atleast to find a real low mileage one or with a rebuilt engine. Mine used oil at 10k miles and ford said 5qts between oil changes was normal.... I now own a hemi truck.

I have an 04 Lightning, bought it new and it now has 70k on it. Never had a problem with it, mileage is 18 on a good day. It has served as tow vehicle for the Mav to the race track (100 miles one way) and then the wife races it once we unload the Mav. It runs 13.60s and is bone stock has ran 13.44. BTW wife has made the team 4 years straight with it and was even in the top 4 one year

I have hauled some heavy loads with it but not something you really want to do.

The earlier versions of the second generation had problems with the spark plugs holes not having enough thread to hold spark plugs in the holes and they blew out or got loose.

More hp is easily added by just a pulley change

I love the Lightning and would buy another one from my experiences with this one but thats not going to happen since Ford killed them after 04

Yeah we run Nitto 555 drag radials aired down a bit but still have alot of tires spin with any rpm coming out of the hole. 60' suck. I would love to put some slicks on it but the whole idea was to just get in and go. Maybe change over to some M/T streets next time we get tires

I would put a different pulley and chip in it but dont want the wife to be quicker than me , but I dont think that will be a problem now with the 347 :)

how heavy of a load did you pull with it. I was wondering if it could pull a 24ft enclosed with a 3000 pound car in it. I think thats pushing it but wanted some more opinions

I will probaly end up using an open trailer since me and dad have 2 nice ones. I have thought of getting an f-250 or f-350 but they are just to bulky.
