anyone know anything about these cars. I have an offer to trade the 17's i had for the maverick for one but its two hours away. i know it has the 2.5 turbo with a 5 speed but thats about it. i like my 17's but the little cavalier daily is dying. wondering whether it would be worth it or not. i mean i think it would be but having never heard of them till today. it needs two tires and has fuel issues. needs body work. also if anyone is up near liberal, ks hit me up before thursday. i wouldnt mind seeing another mav or comet driving around besides mine.
I had one, and like Dave said, they run like stink! Mine was an auto, I changed it over to a 5 speed. They like head gaskets if the boost gets too high.
I just happened to see one in my local junkyard, so if you need something from it let me know, and maybe I can grab parts. It looked pretty solid and not too picked over yet. Im pretty sure it was NOT a turbo, but fairly clean and complete overall.
IF its a Shelby its intercooled and they were fun. Make sure the turbo isnt worn out and leaking oil into the exhaust. If it blows blue smoke stay away from it. Used to work on them when they were new under warranty. HAd 7/115 powertrain warranty and we hated working on them up here. Everything would rust and seize up. Oil and coolant lines that feed the turbo failed a lot and we all had our share of cylinder head and gasket failures. Pretty easy to pull the head and turbo on but probably not worth it at this age. Any 20 year old car with a turbo is a big gamble.
Theres a local guy running high 12's with his. It has a stock long block..never even been open, no gasket swaps nothing. It has a custom made header and the turbo was rebuilt and it was totally stripped down to just a drivers seat.
How about a Shelby Charger instead? I think thats what they called them these were taken at Peach Days the end of Summer last year.
so is there any reason i should feel guilty for trading a set of rims i paid $100 for for an entire car thats in fair condition?
