64 Ford F100.. I need a bed..... Very solid truck a little amount of rust in the floors but mostly the bed.. If anybody knows where a red truck bed is let me know.. Its set up for a v8 gonna probably drop in a 351 only problem is its a straight axle.

A buddy of mine had a '63 F100 in high school, and honestly I couldn't really tell the difference driving it vs. anything else, other then it rode a little harsher.

I can't believe your mom hasn't shot you yet for dragging this stuff home. :rofl2: I thought she was going to kill you both that time I helped y'all pull those two cars up there last year.

We have what I think is a 61 at the ranch. I keep trying to steal the 9" rear out of it when nobody is looking.

At least I THINK it is a 9". with a straight 6 and 3 or 4 on the tree.

    Does it have a 9"?

I got under our ranch truck and the bottom bolt is hard to get to, so i assume it is 9". I figured I could make it fit, and swap out my posi 8" into the truck, and actually improve both vehicles.

Keep the straight axel. keep the bed.

Gut the bed, replace with aluminum or steel., add big aluminum wheel tubs, narrow the rear frame rails, add 4-link and narrowed 9" rear with really fat meats, some wheelie bars, raise the front end a few inches, slap on some skinny Halibrand or 10-spokes, drop in a blown or injected 514 stroker big block.....

Viola!, Old school gasser drag truck

I like that line of thinking! Really nothing wrong with a straight axle truck as long as the alignment is set up properly. Think about this--if a straight front axle was so bad, then why do ALL semi trucks still use them? Like Jamie said, only difference is the ride quality. You can put a big block in those old trucks with no problem, and still have room to change the plugs!:yup:
Put the 351 with a C4 behind it, and put down a sheetmetal or aluminum floor in the bed and you'll have a great parts hauler!:yup::tiphat:

Nothing wrong with the straight axle as long as the king pins aren't siezed (mine were),and if you want to slam it on the ground. What i did with my 64 when i first built it was take 2 leaves out of the front springs 3 out of the back and dropped a 429 in it.It sat and rode very good.Yes 90% of these trucks had a 9" in them and the axle code is on the door tag so you can cross reference it to get the gear ratio. If it has a removeable cover like a Chev it's a DANA 44.

I found some interesting info (from, of all places, the "conversions" section of LS1Tech.com) that showed a late model Crown Vic front suspension cradle complete with rack & pinion steering practically bolting in to an older Ford truck frame. The pix showed only some holes drilled and frame stiffener plates welded in.

Yep, that is a relatively common swap with the '67-'72 Trucks. I don't know what all years it would work on.
