I grew up thinking that hot rodding, in its purest form, was to put the most engine you could afford into the lightest car you could afford. Lot's of Chevys, Plymouths, Dodges, etc. were given Ford flat heads in the 40's and 50's. Buick Nailhead engines can be seen in lots of rat rods and old hot rods. One of the cheapest to build and quickest to run cars I've ever seen was a Chevette with a stock Cadillac 500 ci engine. That is hot rodding.

The goal of the hot rodder was to use the best that he could afford and make it work. Making something fit, making something work, and building something no one else has is hot rodding.

That is an expression…there’s no real book. I don’t keep up with what GM is doing. All I know is our government had to bail them out of bankruptcy.

If you want to be technical...Notice it said “its engine”…not another brand engine.

    Via dictionary.com:

    Its
    –pronoun
the possessive form of it (used as an attributive adjective): meaning “that or those belonging to it” :D

All I'm saying mixing engine brand with car brand is not my cut of tea. I don't like 22's or 24's on a classic car either. Are you going to say thats hotrodding too and I should like it too.

Very well stated Hawko. I have a buddy with a fat fender Ford pickup, you can see pics of it in my Blue Suede Cruise pics. It has a 350 Chev in it. I rag him about it all the time, but it was his choice of powerplant. It's a super nice truck, and built the way he wanted it. While it might not be my choice of power, I still can enjoy it for what it is, a hot rod. I put a Buick V6 in a Toyota pickup one time. Some would say that was awful crossbreeding, but it worked for me. I prefer to see Ford powered cars and trucks, but I realize everybody has their own taste, and I might rag somebody for a Chev in a Ford, but I wouldn't put them down for it. It's whatever makes you happy.

There is no rule that others have to like what someone else does to / with their rod. It is almost an unwritten law that no two rods are ever the same and the wilder it is the more "pure rod" it is.
I don't really care - and I don't ask for opinions or approval - what others think of what I do. I happen to like most of the Ford engines and the Fords I have owned have always been good to me - even when I ignore their needs. Ford has an engine for most any application but if someone feels the need to use a Chevy engine in a Pinto or Mustang it is what makes them happy or suits their needs.
I don't want someone telling me what I can do to MY car so I let them decide what they do with theirs.

    From your first post:

If that's your version of "not hate", it's no wonder you piss everyone off and make people think you're not quite all there.

An opinion has more effectiveness if your foot's not in your mouth when you make it.

    oh, and:....

    ??? ???

Actually... adapting a new engine to the car would make the engine IT'S engine...

But like it or not, it's hot rodding. Nobody puts a 305 in a 1 ton ford truck just to get them back and forth to work. They put the 454 in a Pinto wagon to make it fast.

As for the 22's or 24's... put ANY rim on a car doesn't make it a hot rod, I dont care what anyone thinks. Thats dressing up/down the car...however you look at it.

There is little prestige in a brand name when you swap makes and models of parts. Thats why they made the AMC right? OK True story my ex's dad bought a mid eighties mustang just to put a sbc in it. I of course a ford guy I owned a 70 maverick 351w and fmx 9" truck rear with 325 gears. He was dumping money in this motor just so he could dust me. I told him to get it tuned and we would give it a run. I made him feel good and let him believe he had the faster car. I said that he needs to prove to his daughter that he had the better car. I told him that she should ride with me cause his car was so dangerously fast. We went to a vacant double lane road and lined them up. When we were at the line I told my girl friend you can blow your dad a kiss cause i am going to embarass him and he's going to be pissed, i led him to belive that his car was to fast for you to ride in. It was just the oppisite i ate him up off the line and all the way down the long stretch of road. I was right he was Pissed he called me everything he could spit out his mouth. The next week he was building his first ford motor. He seen the light and was a changed man.

To be honest the whole SBC is faster than a SBF is all garbage... and it goes both ways.

Stock you can say which was faster... but as soon as you start changing any parts your comparing apples to oranges.

You do what you do with your car because it is yours and thats what you enjoy, or what you can afford to do with the car.

Give me $20k to build a Ford car and it will have a Ford motor in it... why? Because that's what I like. But offer me a Ford car with a chevy motor in it that's worth $20k... I wouldn't turn that down either.

I may not like the chevy motor in it, but I wouldn't call it junk/garbage/trash etc. I'd most likely put a ford motor back in it eventually... but I wouldnt take out a 500 horse motor to put in a bone stock FORD motor just because I think thats what belongs in there.

Now, some of you would swap them out instantly, and that's fine... It'd be your car and you could do what you want.

In any case, most of us have been in line here. The issues have came from closed minded people that can't accept that they can't control the whole world.

Would anyone care to discuss the superiority of the Ford engines currently competing in NHRA Pro Stock?

As a note you really cant compare that, nor can you compare the nascar motors. None of those motors will see the street and most of them are custom builds all that denotes what kind of car it is is the sponsor that gives the most money.
Take Toyota if you can tell me what car this motor comes from the factory in I might consider buying a toyota:rofl2:
