The new 5.0 was supposed to be based off the 4.6/5.4 last I checked into it (when it first was coming into perspective)
I heard the same thing, just a bored/stroked 4.6. If the Mod motor bell housing fits them i'll be happy
i hear it comes with a sweet trans, too bad its a mod motor bell pattern though.Maverick75 may be happy with it though....
Putting that engine in a Maverick would probably be a nightmare, even if it did fit with the shock towers.
Hmmm for some reason I thought it shared nothing with the Mod motors. Guess I'd better keep Googling. Thought it was based on an old Indy motor design. Pretty much all of the new age engines physically resemble the mod motors. Our 4.7 at Chrysler could pass as a mod. motor. The modular engines Ford started in 91 if (memory serves) were light years ahead of there time. The basic design of the engine is pretty much standard now for durability and NVH reduction. Very impressive design for 1991 production. http://www.mustang50magazine.com/te...1_ford_mustang_gt_50_coyote_engine/index.html
Physically stuffing it in would be the easy part. I could only imagine the rest of the logistics needed to make it work I think I'll just stick to my original plan
I'm sure if they offer that as a crate motor, they will offer a wiring harness and computer for it... No big deal
Theres a guy near me who's building a Cougar, he's already cut away the shock towers and widened the whole thing, and he's going to put a 4.6 from a wrecked Cobra Mustang in it. Cool project, and to each his own...but if I were going to do all that, I sure as hell would'nt put a 4.6 or any Mod motor in there!!...I'd fill that sucker full of Boss hemi-headed big block power!!
Wiring harness and ecu is already available, it will be in the next ford performance catalog. 1500.00 for harness and ECU, 7,000.00 for crate motor IIRC. I will see if I can find a link...................
it is a pretty impressive engine but I honestly have never seen the deal with mod motors. An aluminum headed 408 would fit easier be cheaper and tear the new mod motors up
