What is the typical procedure for repairing this? Ford dealer said they don't mess with it and send it out to upholstery shop.

I was thinking of etching the glass and applying some adhesive, but want some feedback before I jump in and ruin the top.

Anyone ever fix this issue?

I'd say let the upholstery shop do it. They have the experience and right stuff to do the job right. You don't want to glue it then it tear the first time you let the top down....

How do you find a reputable upholstery shop? I guess I will just ask the local Ford dealer who they send it to...

I would have never guessed that this was an upholstery job...:hmmm:

I repaired my wife's fox body back glass with windshield urethane. it lasted for a couple months, but separated again. I would get a quote from a convertible top/upholstery shop. you might get a warranty that way too.

Well, just an update...We called a couple of Houston's biggest Ford dealers and then called their recommendations, and have gotten 2 answers of "need to replace the entire top" and one woman getting beligerent on us because she couldn't understand why it was GLUED and what we were talking about.

Got onto the local mustang forum and looked around and have two more hits to try today.

I told her she should have never bought a convertible...

Scott, I'm not sure on your's as it's a newer model than ours, but on ours, the back glass has a row of stiching around the back glass. Not really sure how the back glass is attached to the cloth that the top piece is attached to. I do know that big piece is attached with a zipper, so I think just the back glass section can be replaced by it's self. Hope that makes sense, if not I can get you a pic of what I'm talking about.

Ours appears to be glued from both sides. A layer glued to the inside of the glass around the outside inch or so, then a second layer, the actual top layer, glued around the outside inch of the glass.

Yeah, that's different than the one on our fox body. I'd still try the upholstery shop route, at least let them look at it. They might recommend something that will last....

Just reread and did not see where you talk to glass shop. May want to check with them and see if they have ever replaced a back glass.

I have not talked to a glass shop because everyone I have asked said to go to upholstery shops.

I have two phone numbers I will call that have good feeback on the local mustang forum...I just got home too late, so will have to call them tomorrow.

I originally, and erroneously, thought I could just take it to the local Ford dealer and they would fix it. Was suprised that it had to be sent out, and Ford cannot fix their own stuff.

    And it held up?

    Just 3M spray adhesive?

I am afraid someone is going to charge me a LOT of money to fix this, if I can ever find someone who even agrees that they can do it.
