How far would you go to save a Shelby?

Depends on if you're paying someone to build it or if you're doing all the work yourself on your own car. Might very easily fetch $200,000 when finished. But a good resto shop would likely charge more than that to do that extensive of a restoration too. Definitely worth restoring though. All Shelbys need to be saved! :thumbs2: And 68 is my favorite year...which reflects in my car. :)

Well, the good thing about them is as you saw in the pics of the restoration, you can get ANYTHING for them! And the parts are cheap! I'd tackle either of those if the price was right...like free!!! :)

Every Shelby is worth saving as Ray said and if you had Herschel Walker's money, you wouldn't even think about it.

The bad thing is that when it's all said and done, there will probably be very little left that is actually Shelby about that car. It will be mainly Taiwanese sheet metal and reproduction Shelby parts. If I had Hershel Walkers money...I'd buy a nice unrestored survivor or at least a restored car that had good documentation. No way a car that has gone through all of that will ever fetch the big bucks......at least by a true car guy. A rich sucker might shell out the cash though just to have "Hershel Walker's" Shelby.

DADGUMIT! Here I've been thinkin' I was true car guy for over 37 years and I just learned that I ain't. Might as well go sell my Mavericks, my Camaro, my memorabilia, my engines, and then shoot myself or take up knitting.

Ok...maybe I should have said a "very experienced collector of high end vehicles".

Key word is collector. I guarantee you that if I, or several on this forum, found a KR in a barn, in that shape, and could get it reasonable (can you say "fat chance"), I would do all that work myself and use whatever parts I could find. I think a true car guy does the work, too. (y)

Ray, you big dummy. It's called crocheting. It's different than knitting by one whole needle. :D

I've been lurking. I still show up and read. Heck, I even offered up some real info yesterday and today.

The Camaro is fine. I'm leaving it unrestored for now. It draws a lot of attention as is. The only difference between working on the Camaro and a Maverick is learning a new set of part numbers and the massive availability of GM licensed, American made, reproduction parts. Wish we had that for the Mavericks and Comets. But, enough of that. This is a Ford product forum. :tiphat:
