I think we're gonna see more cops in Chargers. Memphis PD has for the past few years been buying plenty of Dodge, Chevy and Ford, but I'm thinking it was a long-term "TCO" or durability study, and it looks like the Chargers have won preference around here. I see more of them than anything else.

Man, that's old news, living around the St.Thomas Assembly plant, loads of people are losing their jobs soon.
It's amazing they would close one of their best quality and producing plants...

I'd say what's even more significant is that these are the last full-frame, front engine, rear-wheel drive cars.....literally the end of an era.

There's something about the strength, durability and solid feel of a full frame car......especially with a V-8 up front and traction in the rear

The Vics and related Panther platform cars are really nice rides. Sad to see them go

    That's ok though......I stocked up....

Fully agree, and it's truly sad. The last real car you can buy now is a truck.

Yes, I remember hearing about this a few years ago with 2010 as the last year.

I agree completely. They are the last of their kind on the road.

Sad to see the big Vic gone.
As for the Chargers I've witnessed first hand the beating they can take. Our first one around here went to the police on the Indian Reserve. I can honestly say the city cops shouldnt have much trouble with longevity. The Charger from the Reservation took one hell of a beating over the past few years. Been airborn a number of times with the worst of the damage being bent front struts. The chassis and suspension seems to have stood up really well. They finally wrecked it after a high speed roll over. Its pretty much the only rear drive car left for Police service.

I think us guys should make a suggestion to Ford about brinking back a cop car from the past and modifying it to the new standards of today. If they can do it with the Charger why not the Grantor for short.

That's why a lot of the PD's around here, including the State, have either got Chargers, or SUV's or pickups. I see a lot of Tahoe's and pickups, Ford and Chevy. Not as many use the Expedition's as the Tahoe's. I also see Dodge Magnum's sometimes, but they're no longer made, either. From what I have read, the Chevy Impala's fall apart in about a year.....

:) Some of the PD's around here are switching from Chargers to Cameros.

Ford has a replacement for the crownvic....Im not sure it will be available to the public.....but it will be a rear wheel drive car called the Interceptor......they talked w and had law enforcement involved from day one.....it is a specific niche car......
