Me and my dad haul junk cars and scrap to make extra money. We deal with a new yard that opened and the owner is cool. He will sell you anything that comes in for a little more than scrap price. I have bought a model a axle 4x2 sbc intake, performer rpm intake and other stuff from him. We went by there today and I saw an old dent that had came in there. I figure just another 302 or fe truck. I open the hood and see a big block. I think its a 460. Look again and realize that it is. I see the owner and ask. He says they loaded it with scrap and drove it in there. I ask how much for it. He says make offer, I ask him to price it and he says $400, I say sold. We went back and get it and I put a battery on it and drove it on the trailer. It has a terrible exhaust leak and needs a tuneup but the engine seems in good shape. I plan to rebuild it and swap it into the bump probaly next summer. For a while I will have a yard truck. Here are some pics of it

I once had a '74 F100 with a 460... 6 MPG was good as was 100 miles per fill-up. Oh, and filling up took 15 minutes as you could only fill at 1/4 throttle so the pump wouldn't kick off. Good luck!

Sweet find! I've got a '76 F150 with a 390 in it that I break out when I need to haul junk or nasty stuff.

Mine isn't much better... 10mpg loaded or unloaded, it doesn't care. It also does the slow fill thing too.

I figured out what it was and just have been too lazy to fix it. As the rubber fill hose gets older, it kinks where it crosses under the bed and over the frame. The fix is either make a metal section to fit in there or replace the rubber hose.

I plan on leaving this truck together until I can afford a rebuild and swap it into my truck. Dad said if we tuned this one up we should take it to tnt. I thought about it but can't say I want to go any amount of speed in this truck. lol

I bought a 77 new, loved it! 12-14 mpg, towed racecar in Pa hills with only a 2 mpg drop. That was my last new one to come with bias tires!

    i`d restore it! Nice find!

When you put it into the bump, put some headers on it. Alone they're worth about2-3 tenths and a couple mpgs. While you're at it, swap out the disc brakes onto the bump too. I like the dentsides better, but I know your bumpsides in much better shape. BTW, my '77 460 truck(stock,no mods) got 10 mpg, no matter how you drove it. The low compression 460 w/3.25s ran 10.60s...about what a stock '90s 350 or 351 would run. But it pulled much better than those smallblocks.

the bump already has power disc brakes. Before I put it in I plan on rebuilding it. It will get a mild cam, headers, aluminum intake and holley carb. I think It would run mid 9's pretty easy. A guy had a 83 mustang with a late 70's 460 that had a cam, performer 460 intake and 850 holley. It had stock manifolds on it. It ran 8.12 at 87 and it was still missing a little. He said it went 7.80's running right. It really don't take much to make these engines fast

today I got to messing with it. The ignition box was leaking goo so I put another one I had on it. I cleaned up an old set of spark plugs and put them in. The gas tank leaks bad. I ran a hose from the fuel pump to a 2 gallon gas jug. I crank it up and it idles smooth and revs clean. Tie gas jug up so I got to test it out. Go back and forth a little to make sure everything works. Ok its time for some fun. I pull in the driveway and powerbrake it. I stop after a get a huge smoke cloud going. Let everything settle and do it again. I decided to stop before I blew the old mud grip out. Is it sad that a stock 460 truck from the junkyard with $10 worth of work runs harder than my 390 .060 over headers cam inatke holley and rebuilt heads. 460's rule and fe's drool
