Wow! Been a helluva day! Started cruising about 10am. Went to Cruise Central (Gulfport VA Center) and turned in our registration cards. Walked around checking out the cars, spotted a couple more Mavericks. Then...THERE IT WAS!!! The 71 Comet GT that was built by Jamie Miles dad several years ago! Wow! It is so hard to believe that a paint job could still look that good after all these years!!! I introduced myself to the new owner, Mr Joel Garrett. Joel is one cool dude! And this car will be well preserved as long as he owns it. I'll just warn you right now, if you look like you're going to touch his car...get ready for an evil eye! And if you actually DO touch it...BIG trouble!!! Joel will take care of the situation real quick. I like this guy. Matter of fact, my friend and I spent the rest of the afternoon with Joel and his wife. We drove our cars to Long Beach Ms., lined up in the parade route so we could drive in it. I was told there was about 500 cars in the parade alone. We ended up at the Long Beach harbor where the parade ended. The Tip Tops were playing and sounded great. I'll tell you for certain both our cars got a tremendous amount of attention in the parade. I finally got wore down and had to head home for a little rest. Plan on meeting back up with Joel again tomorrow. Oh, Jamies dad is suppose to come down Friday to visit Joel and reunite with his long lost car. That will be a cool reunion. I will tell you one thing for sure. Mr Miles did one heck of a job building this car. I was very very impressed with the workmanship that went into this build. Beautiful Job!!!
Alright... stayed up working to get the new diff installed till 1am last night. Went for a test drive... Noise was gone YEAH! Whats that new noise???? Ripped it back out again tonight. More glitter!!!!!!! Taking it back to mechanic for inspection in the morning and am searching for a new 9" unit. I can get it installed tomorrow and be on my way the next day... if I can find one. eBay really bit me hard this time.

The weather for once is absolutely perfect for cruising.
Damn! I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with it. Sure hope you find something. The weather has been great. I'm on the way to my shop right now to work on mine. Feels like the z-bar is either bending or breaking. Clutch pedal dropped about 2" yesterday. Gotta do something with it before I get back over there in that traffic. It's getting packed out.
Always so much fun! Had a blast today. Saw another Maverick I've never seen but it was gone by the time I got turned around. Gonna try to find him again tomorrow. Its a red 71-72 Grabber...looked beautiful...gotta find it again. I had to limp mine around the latter part of the day. It developed a dead miss in the engine. First time anything like that ever happened. I thought for sure a plug wire had come off or something. I couldn't see anything wrong. Didn't have anything to check it with over there so I brought it to the house. Fired it up and took a quick temp reading at the top of each header tube and found the problem cylinder...#4. Changed a couple plug wires around real quick to eliminate that...no good. Pulled the plug and it was solid black and wet...definitely fouled. Cleaned it real well and dried it with the air hose, stuck it back in and it ran great! Had me just a tad bit worried. I was trying to think of just bad things that might be going on but hoping it was only a plug or something simple. Anyway, it should be fine for the rest of the week. Will go ahead and pick up a new set of plugs first chance I get. Would you believe that's the same set of plugs that came in that 347 engine when I bought it 3 years ago??? They are NGK's. I will look for the same thing because they have impressed the heck out of me. Oh well, I'm ready to cruise some more. Will post pics soon!
I made finally made. Left an oil slick (rear main leak) and a signif portion of my rear tires in LA do to soft springs and bad roads but I made it. We,ll plan on hanging out on the strip tomorrow night. Tonight we're cruisin.
My dad called me about an hour ago and said he just made it down there. Sure wish I could have came as well, but can't get away from work.
I got several Bobby...of the car anyway. Will get them posted as soon as this is over. Got two more days of cruising. Wow! The traffic was unbelievable last night. Took me two hours to make one up and down pass of about 4 miles. The location I was at is where most of the action was. It didn't matter that the cops were everywhere. There were idiots doing burnouts with a cop two cars behind them. Oh well, it's only money. Just glad it's theirs. Well, gotta go. Will check in later.
Hate that I missed you guys, I didn't find this thread til today. I sure looked for Mavericks. Saw a Stallion at the colliseum. Maybe next year.
Wow! What a great week! There were 5484 registered cars this year and an estimated 2000 more unregistered ones. There had to be at least 500 for sale vehicles all up and down the coast also. Oh, that Stallion you saw was one of mine. I had two of them there this year (white and silver) plus my blue car.
Im pretty sure we'll be back next year. I just hope it doesnt overlap the Lonestar Goodguys next year which is 10/5,6,7.
