One day a couple of weeks ago, someone slipped one into the mail slot at my office. I'm amazed at the people that look at Hot Wheels in the stores, and the person that bought it for me, isn't even a car guy.....

That is a cool mistake you found. HotWheels is famous for their tampo mistakes. Sometimes if there is enough of these mistakes it becomes a variation. You should keep an eye out at the same store for more of thoses. Sometimes you can find more than one if they are from the same case. I have quite a few tampo errors in my collection of cars. Some are pretty unusual. That is a keeper you don't want to open, Or you can send it my way LOL ...

I'm amazed that when I go to look through the Hot Wheels in Walmart, Target or K-Mart, I sometimes have to wait until some other "older child type person" (like myself) finishes up looking through them first. When I can get to them, I find a lot of car #32's and car #34's but no Mavericks (#33). Is our cars getting that popular or don't these stores think the Maverick will sell and don't order any of them at all?

The gold ones without the stripes are error cars. The machine that rolls the stripe down the side probably ran out of paint, and the cars made it past Quality Control.

Here is an interesting question .... without taking the car out of the package ... look to see if there is a stripe on the side closest to the card.

I just did this here with a bright halogen flashlight next to the blister pack and outside in bright sun. Look at the car from the bottom.

I don't know if the tampo machine that prints the stripes would have a separate paint supply for each side or not. I am betting they do and you will find a stripe there.

As far as value goes ... HW error cars are kind of wacky. I would put those at between $10-20 ... hard to say, for sure ... it would be whatever someone is willing to pay.

If it was a Camaro or VW Bug ... cars that seem to have a huge cult following ... (as opposed to Mavs, have a small cult following ... us ... :p) .... it would be worth a lot more. I sold a couple of Camaro with wheel errors from when the Classics line had just come out. ... they went for stupid money.

Our local walmart had their Hot Wheels marked down to .77 cents today. Damn right...found three more gold ones like I really need them. Handed my wife a handful of other cars too just to give away to some of the kids we do Christmas for. Check your stores guys, I would think they will all be priced about the same.

I have one blue one, and I see gold ones all over the place now. Haven't seen any other color though. The gold ones are so plentiful I think I might take one apart so I can paint it with the same paint I'm planning to put on my car next spring/summer.

I just picked up the die cast, Motor Max, 1974 Maverick Grabber white/orange 1:24 scale at a swap meet yesterday. $10 is probably what they cost new, but I bought it anyway.

I guess that they all have a floor shift and buckets?
A hump mounted hand E-brake would be nice in real life, is that from the Brazilian Maverick?
