Okay its not a maverick, but the engine is still based on an engine that was used in our cars :D Anywho im doing a water pump swap on a tempo 2.3 HSC. Now i just got a new one from NAPA, the only issue is that the outlet port on it is a square port. In my manual the port on the head is a circle. Will there be any issue with using mismatched ports? I figure if the square port fits inside of the circle there shouldnt be an issue. But what do you guys think? Thanks

PS I havent taken the stock pump off yet to see if it is a circle or square. The car is an 89 but my book only goes up to 86, so i guess they could have gone to a square port in that time frame.

I think if the gasket fits around the outside of both the ports it should be fine...:yup:

Thanks Frank! I wanted to try out the gasket but the one I got in the kit has the square port also. Unlike the one in the pic below. Theres also an O ring that fits around the square port fine. So i hope it works! [IMG]

As long as the square port covers the hole in the block, you're good to go! The other thing to check is that the distance from the pulley mounting hub, from the block,is the same distance!
