What is a nice size shop that two cars could fit in and be able to work on them at the same time if need? I was thinking 25 by 30 too big or too small? Thanks for any help
24x 40 here, and I'm crowded with the Mav & model A. If I would clean it out it would just fill back up with more ford parts. If you have self control 24x30 will get the job done.
Go as big as you can. Someone is always commenting that they have to pass on some bargain 'cause they don't have room for it. I have a 26X24 regular garage, 15X30 boat garage, and 12X24 shop out back. I'd love to have room for a donor vehicle for a Phase 2 engine/trans. Or even a Phase 2 engine/trans. Guess cost to heat will be a big factor in your area.
Mine is 25x28 which met the maximum 700 sq ft law that the city allowed for an unattached building. It is nice but I wanted 30x36, never enough room. If I ever move to a place with a plot of land I will build a big pole barn and build a shop within.
A shop and garage can never be too big. It depends on the amount of land you have and the amount of money you can spend. I will say to spend the money to insulate it well and an inexpensive heat source - like geo-thermal - to keep it available all year. To figure out how big you need you will have to know what machinery you are going to put in it. I would say at the very least you need a good drill press (or mill), bench grinder and buffer (separate), 30 ton press (minimum), air compressor with 60 gallon tank (minimum), Oxy-Acetylene and miig welders (and maybe a TIG and stick), metal band saw, an over-head hoist (traveling) and a lift. Then you need a floor jack and good jack stands. Storage and tool chests and at least one good solvent tank with recirculating filters and a media blast cabinet. If you plan on doing your own paint you will need a separate paint booth - can't expect good paint work in a shop that you work in. I have tried to get as much of that as I can moved from my commercial shop into a 15 x 40 foot shop - it won't all fit with a single car in the space. Here is what did fit: Lathe, grinder, press, solvent tank, mig welder, overhead hoist, drill press, floor jack, stands, two tool cabinets (roll aways and top boxes), press, sheet metal brake, 5" vice, tool storage and work bench with cabinets for parts storage. Tight is an understatement. I had to sell a lot of equipment tyhat I would have liked to keep but the room I have is all I have so I make do. I would love to have the money and land to have a 100' x 50' shop with all my tools in it again and a place to store metal and parts and a separate paint booth.
Hey guys I only want to have simple tools maybe two cars land isnt a big deal saying its going to be on a 17 acre farm just wanna have a place to work on my car maybe have a pit
One car in pieces takes up two stalls. Estimate what you think you need and double it and you'll MIGHT have enough space.
