I'm pretty sure that very few on here would be interested in this, but here goes : Besides my affection for Mavericks and Comets, I love old Mercedes-Benz cars, mostly the 80's ones.. I've had a few different ones: '86 230E, '90 190E 2.0 sportline, '84 240D, '87 300D, 88 190 2.0 carb and I currently own a '94 E220 Wagon that's my daily driver and my project(besides the Comet); an '87 190E 2.6 which I've had for over a year now. A few pics: When I bought it: How it looks atm: I've changed out the '84ish 2.8 I6 (Twincam 185hp) for a '90 3.0 I6 (SOHC 188hp), and changed out the old 4spd auto for 5spd manual gearbox. Done a bunch of other stuff aswell Future plans: Was supposed to be my daily driver, but ended up buying a turbo setup for it and now I'm thinking of getting mounted EFI as well.. Guess it'll become a summer-only car, like my comet. Oh, and my daily driver is this: Poor thing got backed into during the summer, so I have to change the front bumper eventually
Cool. I used to work at a european used car place years back when I was doing my apprenticeship. I worked on those cars. They are almost funny to work on after being used to N American cars. They are so well and even over built. You can see where the money goes in those cars. Overdone but in a good way. I work on my buddies 91 BMW 850i quite a bit. ITs the same way. Built like a tank and way ahead of its time. V12 with twin throttle bodies drive by wire. Car has 2 alternators and 2 huge batteries one in each corner of the trunk. Total overkill but cool. Batts. are still original and test OK. We just started using drive by wire at Chrysler a few years ago when the LX chassis came out. Trucks had it a bit earlier.
Yeah, they aren't as hard to wrench on as most people claim (at least these old ones arent). I was never really a big fan of MB's until I bought my first one a couple of years back, but fell in love with them when I first drove one myself My favorite is the W201 190 82-93 though, and I've wanted one with a straight six for a long time Turbo will just make it even more fun The I6's are supposed to handle quite a bit of abuse as well
LOL. Wiseguy eh?? Because hes a fussy SOB and finds things to change or improve. Gets lots of maintenance as well since its 20 years old. Its quite the car for its age. Same as this one. http://mydrive.roadfly.com/photos/pic.php?u=144534GQ3Cx&i=10164
Sitting here smiling to myself . Crikee, 1980's cars are now considered old? When did this happen? LOL Mercedes wise, these were my favorite. Except for the huge steering wheels. LOL
BMW 850's are pretty sweet I've actually never HAD to anything on my MB's, only upgraded certain stuff TBH, I don't consider 80's cars old, but everyone else seem to do I don't really consider my Comet THAT old either My '94 wagon is the newest car I've ever had, and I don't think I'll be buying anything newer than that for quite some time either.. Rather older.. I like old cars Way more sturdy and reliable than most of the things you can buy today
It's hard for me to realize that 1980 was 30 years ago, I still have this weird idea of 1970 being 30 years ago Hard to believe that my comet is 40 years old, january 15th (aprox.) 2011 I like the wagon as well, my daily driver.. Very comfortable, never any issues with it Was almost mint condition when I bought it, but it got backed into this spring How it looked when I bought it, before changing out the grille
