I've searched and can't seem to find it, what would be the biggest tire size i can fit on my '74 Comet without any modifications it's a 15" Rim 9.5" wide and 3.5" backspacing thanks.
This isn't exactly what you are looking for, but maybe it can help: http://www.maverickman.com/TireandWheelSizes.html
I usually go to tirerack.com and find a tire brand that has sizes in that range (10"= 254mm width) and look at the specs for the tire in that specific size. they give you section width in inches, tread width, diameter, load range, tread wear, and the measured rim width. I've seen a 295/50R15 on one but I don't remember if he rolled the quarter panel lip.
I think your backspacing is going to hurt you a little bit.....you will likely have your tire sticking out past the fender (ugly), then again it may not. My 10" rims have a 4.25" backspacing and I can fit a 28x10" MT slick w/ no problems.
I have em on mine, but on 15x10 wheels with a 5" B/S and the lips are rolled and the springs stiffened. The only other choices are 265/50 (don't recall the brand, they're on my trailer in Kalifornia) and 275/50's. The 275/50's should fit on anything without mods
Alright so as it looks right now, ill be going with 275 50 15's, would it be possible to go to a 60 series though? if not ill just get the 50. thanks everyone
im 90% sure that wheel will be under the outer fender lip. there is no way that you wont rub any tire on the fender with those wheels. sorry for the bad news but your back spacing is 1/2" too short and the wheel is just a little too wide. when running a 15 inch wheel your tires have alot of side wall buldge and that is what makes the wheel too wide to work with a maverck wheel well.
alright then so whats the size im going to run guys? haha i gotta get this figured out...i don't mind if they stick out the side of the car as long as they wont rub.
a 15x8 with a 4.25 off set seems to be the size that will work with a 275-60-15 tire. they may still rub. different tire manifactures will have different external dimentions. meaning some brands are bigger than others. you may still have to roll the fender lips to keep them from rubbing. if the tires stick out of the fenders they will rub on the fender over bumps.
Rear Tire Size I have a set of jegs sport mags on my car 15/4's on front and 15/10's on rear with 4.5" bs. with 265-50-15 does NOT stick out past quarter panel part #555-69001 bs 1.75" front rear part#555-69031 bs. 4.5"
what brand tire are you guys using in a 15" that might be good for a street car? I do a little corner carving in the mountains, so drag stuff isn't really practical.
