What he said. TH350 trans would also work if it's built right. Or 700R4 if it's REALLY built right, but you'll have to put down some money for that. B&M makes a Quicksilver shifter that's a direct bolt-in for that car's console. It's also not that hard to convert to stick. Wouldn't use a T5, but a Muncie would be bitchin'. Pontiac engine though. 400 or 455. If you just have to use a Chevy engine, might as well go big block. Only thing there is you need a notched valve cover on the left side to clear the booster. Not a big deal. Can you tell I've thought about this some? :D

I had a wimpy 81 Turbo T/A. Not alot of power but man was that a nice driving car. Light blue with Gold bird and gold homeycombs. As much of a Ford Purist I am I would still like to have a nice late 70-80s Trans Am or Camaro again.

70 or 71 camaro ok, but the rest you can keep. I always wondered what a late 70's early 80's fire chicken would be like with a big block. how many upgrades would one have to do to the front susp?

Not much. Springs, maybe, and I'd consider that optional. The car is built on a platform that was designed to support a big block. My brother's done the swap a couple of times, I rode around in one of them. Didn't seem clumsy at all. I kind of wonder if there's much difference in the weight of an aluminum-headed big block Chevy vs. an iron-headed (and iron intake, iron manifolds, etc., you know- stock) small block.

    Supermav,

Thanks! We've owned it since it rolled of the transporter in '79. They do handle well even in stock form.
