bbenton, another option to look into (not sure it's even feasible) would be to see about having the axles re-drilled to accept a 5 lug pattern. May not even be possible, I'm sure someone will chime in to correct me if it won't work.

I am in Los Angeles. I bought wheels for the front today and I am holding off on the rear into I figure out what to do. I am browsing the forums to figure out how to do the rear end swap.

Hey, I'm a "silly" girl too, 24 yrs old to be exact if it makes you feel better :D. You can do this!!! Don't discount yourself because your a woman. I have the benefit of having a father that's been restoring cars for the last 25 yrs, so that helps ALOT. This forum can be helpful, but just assess all your options and make sure your doing the right thing for you. So many times people make suggestions that just aren't going to work with your situation. For example, I decided to go with the adapters/spacers because my mav is my daily driver. So I couldn't afford the time to have it out right now or the cost of repairing the rear end to put it on properly, so spacers were my easy solution. It is not as hard working on old cars as everyone makes it. This maverick is the most reliable car I've had....because it is easy to repair. So stay positive. Go out there with a wrench and replace small things first (if you have the chance) to get your feet wet.....alternator, power steering pump, fuel pump, carburator....those types of things. Build your confidence and you will get better and better. These cars are WAY cheaper than any honda, kia, whatever out there and much easier to fix. Just watch out for those people that always tell you that you NEED to replace EVERYTHING (that your working on) or see a specialist about it. That's WRONG. These cars are not rocket science or we all would not be doing them. Good Luck and You Go Girl!!!:drive:

Thanks tigermav, that is really good advice. I really need to use the car as a daily driver as well, which is why I wanted to do the adapters, but it seemed like everyone was so against it (I guess you weren't). I am going to go ahead and put the adapters on and then figure out what I want to do later. Besides, I would love to see four new wheels on my car. I am going to start working on the little things like you suggested.

I don't think people were against the spacers, I just think they were not communicating the potential issues clearly. What you will want to keep in mind is that when the day comes you can swap to a 5 lug axle you lose the added width of the spacers. If you have spacers that are 2" thick each side and you buy wheel that fit and look just right with the spacers you have to remember they will move inward that much with out them. this could make the wheels look like they don't fill the wheel well like they used to or create interference with suspension pieces (all easily solved with another set of spacers:rolleyes:).
