OK, I'm back. was on the forum before when I was doing a 74 Comet., did it, sold it...now I am picking up (Thursday) a 77 Maverick...sweet ride, 77K miles, second owner...only thing...it has a 6 cyl. in it. Few questions to get this conversation going: Where can I find some information on the 77 models, e.g. molding offered, what did the "Grabber" stripe and paint look like etc. Second quesion: Planning on putting in a V8 302 over the winter but the car is sweet now and probably will simply drive her all summer., so...is there much you can do to the 250 6 cyl., e.g. carburation, exhaust etc. Look forward to some replies...good to be back.:tiphat:

Wow, after posting this tag, I see they still have my 72 Comet pic, will change that once I get the 77

Thanks. Hey you know the more I look into the 250 5 cyclinder which is in the Maverick I will be picking up the more I start to think maybe, just maybe I will leave the car all "original" and beef up that six. I seen the Falcon which is going to or ran on "Pinks", it had a sweet 6 cylinder (McLearran Motorsports engine ) and ran the quarter in the 10's. Come on now, you take a look at this Maverick I picked up, nice outside, nice inside, then you pop the hood and there she is, the "original" 6 Banger, chromed out, boosted...what do you think?

Check out www.classicinlines.com They have all the six cylinder hop up stuff you may ever want. Fixing up a six is fun and unique! :thumbs2:

Thanks for the reply and looks like a great web site you directed me to. I will go into it and take a better look. What I have found is that these 200 / 250 6 cyclinders can be made into some nice motors....and to keep this Maverick original (6 cylinder) and then pop the hood show a nice motor beefed up...should be pretty cool. Now, don't take this wrong, I have no hesitation in pulling a motor and doing some internal changes..but that's a "winter" project...what I am looking to do is getting this ride, bringing her home and do some quick "bolt on" engine mods., headers etc. So, any suggest on "bolt on", again headers, carb changes etc. Something you can do in the grarage without pulling the motor. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks:drive:

Headers and electronic ignition are the two that immediately come to mind. These are relatively easy to do. I prefer the DUI distributor from classic inlines but is the priciest option but also the easiest to install. Hood clearance with a 250 is minimal so putting an adaptor to run a 2bbl carb will produce clearance issues. There are other options for installing a 2 bbl carb but that would involve removing the head and some machine work. There are some 1 bbl carbs that have a higher cfm flow rate than others but I don't know off hand what those would be. If you do a search on this site you may find that answer...or check out the forum on the classicinlines site and ask questions. (y)

Again thanks. I am on the site (you suggested) as I reply....Great site and some very good information. They also stated that the best "bang-4-Ur-buck" and the very first thing you should do is the ignition system....going to look into that. As for the headers....do you think they can be installed on this 77 without getting in the way of any under the hood clearance...then simply have an exhaust shop manf. and install a nice set of duals?

If you have a/c on the car that may pose a small problem but it can be solved. Other than that you should have no clearance issues at all.

I believe she has AC. I am picking her up tomorrow in Toledo and making the 170 mile trip back home driving her....so I will get a good feel as to her condition, but I am almost positive she has AC. Anyway, reading the site you sent...WOW, what a wealth of information and great tips. I will probably simply drive the car for the rest of the summer (maybe not) and come winter when I push her in the garage begin the mods....but the DUI distributor seems (so far) and easy install....so I may do that fairly quickly. Any difficulties in installing the DUI that you know of?

Just make sure there is an o-ring on the dizzy shaft( should come with it) and that you tighten the hold down clamp securely. Otherwise you will have oil leaking where the dizzy contacts the block. The only difficulty you may encounter is finding the sweet spot so you get the dizzy installed in the right spot and you mesh with the oil pump rod. May take some trial and error but that's about it. Have fun with it!

Here is what my exhaust set up looks like. I installed the headers and a muffler shop did the rest.

Without seeing where they (pipes) come out looks like you chose to have both come out on the drivers side or do they run into one pipe? I was thinking having the dual pipes come out the back......looks like you had a very good job done., nice.

No...it's a true dual system with both pipes exiting at the back of the car...one on each side. Thanks.
