A variation of the other thread so to speak...

I had a college student drive 3 1/2 hours today so I could fix his Maverick. Car was vandalized outside his house. They had kicked in the doors, broke off his mirrors, jumped on the hood and bent the living tar out of his wipers. In the process of bending up his wiper arms, they broke off one of the wiper piviots and bent the other one beyond repair. Maaco painted his car and fixed up most of the other issues. To fix the wipers was going to require removing the wiper motor and wiper arms inside the car behind the dash. I told him if he wanted to drive up here...I would fix his car, because I knew a mechanic close to him would either not want to do the job, do the job and break a bunch of stuff in the process, or charge a huge amount of money to do the job.

After many weeks of delays on his part and mine, he drove up today and I got the job done. It was also a factory AC car...so that made it even tougher. Fixed his wipers, got him a spare tire (he didn't have one), and he was on his way.

Very gracious gesture to a fellow Mavericker. Also, a gud topic to the other popular thread. I have never had to do a wiper repair yet, but, having done the AC box and a lot of other underdash mods I have a gud idea - It ain't something Im lookin fwd to.

Is there a sign-up sheet or can I just pull up? Seriously, that actually sounds like a lot of fun. I've found that working on someone's house/car is a whole lot more fun than working on your own.

Did you have to take the dash off to access the motor? I've stripped most of my car down but the dash is still hanging on by a bolt by the steering column. Sounds like a pretty rough job.

Also, I've been putting together a list of parts that I'll need for my car. I'm hoping on having it back together by next summer. I figure I would send it on to you and then if you have some of what I need, I could take a trip to Indiana and save on some shipping. I'll try to send a preliminary list in the next couple of days.

    Craig,

Very cool. We could use a little more of that in the world. Love the quality of the people on this forum.

I did not have to take off the dash. I did remove the lower dash tray, the AC blower motor assembly, defrost plenum, instrument cluster...and I got to lay on my back and remove and install the rest.

To be fair...I did charge him $50 labor. Not an easy job, took about 2 1/2 hours, plus I had the heat on in my garage...and that ain't cheap. :D

G3Blues.....get a list together and come on down.

Only $50.00, that was a steal. It don't get no fairer than that.

this thread fits me better than the " what did you do to your mav today" ...my usual reponse to that would be walked passed it to get in our out of my truck to or home from work. but i have spent more time on my friends mavs than my own:90:

last thing i did was donate and help install a grabber spoiler and endcaps on my buddies sprint

but he helped me install my super 44s with stainless tails and tubular gt40 intake on my sn95

I hope I am not breaking the rule of this thread, but I'll add a true story of how Craig Selvey went out of his way for me...

...back before I joined this forum....I emailed Craig after seeing his awesome website of Craig's Maveick Corral. I had owned 2 other Ford Mavericks, and was ready to get back in the game in 2009.

Craig was gracious enough to send me several emails with advice...considering how busy he is....I mean just look at his iTrader rating...hardest working guy in the Maverick Community!

I may proudly live in the great state of Arizona...but I am also proud to be born and raised in Illinois, in the General area of many awesome members on here, including Craig.

I decided to make a trip to see Craig and his cars, especially the Great Pumpkin, with my son, during my annual trip to Illinois to visit my family.

Craig endured several phone calls from me....while I was preparing directions for the trip, and cruising across the great Hoosier state....when I arrived....he let my son use the restroom, and he spent a long while showing us his cars....

....He could have been doing other things that day....I'm sure he sacrificed some of his time to accomodate us. He even offered me one of the parts in his garage for my Grabber.

He also took a ride with my son and I, in my Mom's car, over to see his 4 door Mav.

It was an awesome visit, and I have some beautiful pictures of his cars, that my son and I took. It was a beautiful summer day in Indiana.

    Thanks Craig. :)

Craig, you are amazing! Seldom are there people generous enough to share their skills without lofty expectation, and people with genuine kindness are vanishing at record speed. I like to believe that our actions come full circle, so your acts of helpfulness will undoubtedly return to you. :)

I dont know anyone else with a Mav, but Id be game to help if I did! I dont actually have ANY gear head friends here (the perils of being female!), which is a little bit of a bummer. I miss having a buddy to work with! Plus, some muscle would be handy from time to time. 100lb. me vs. overtightened rusted bolts equals ouchtown + ineffectiveness. ;-)

    ...wasn't today...but...

I can't remember charging anyone with a Mav/Comet to do anything for them...
I have picked up parts from one member and taken them 100s of miles and charged them...nothing...:yup:
pulled parts at junkyards for Guys and charged them what the part cost.
gone and looked at cars for people that were interested in buying them but were too far to come look at it themselves.
one member came by my house at 7:00 AM on his way home from work in his mav. we pulled the head on his motor (170).
everything under the hood was removed, cleaned, painted, reinstalled and he was on his way home around 2:30.

    swapped...transmissions...
    installed...rear disc. brakes...
    ...rewiring...
    tailpanel... repair/repaint

    I always looked at it as...helping a Friend...:Handshake

Mike, Jeff and Earl have done the same for me...no charge...:Handshake Guys

    ... P. D. W/T. S. ...:chirp:

everyone ive personally met on this board is the type of person that would give you the shirt of their back.. im sure not everyone is like that but i can vouch for a good few

hopefully people say the same about me......just dont ask for my shirt

not because i wouldnt give it, but because you really dont want to see this 350 lb on the hoof body topless;)

Aww geesh....Now you guys and gals are causing me to blush!!!

I just want to "pay it forward"...or maybe it is "pay it back". I remember being a young college kid and not having any money, driving a beat up Maverick. I had a distant way older cousin who I called my "uncle" who would help me work on my car. He had parted out a lot of cars in his time, so if I ever needed anything, I would run out to his house and he would help me out. He got "old-timers" disease and basically forgot how to work on stuff. It was really sad. A few years later when he passed...I felt like I lost my automotive dictionary.

I don't like seeing people having to pay a ton of money to get something done that is pretty simple to do...so I help where I can.
