I have always like the looks of the Fairmont futura. That would be on sweet ride with a 302/351 engine, 8,8 out back and change the front to 5 lug. My friend had a red one that his daughter drove in high school, wish I would have bought it when he sold it. Good luck with it.

The front ends are weak! I had trouble with the rack steering too. Other than that, they're a decent car. :)
    One I had ( 82 ) was a 2.3L, the other ( 80 ) was a 200.

The front ends are exactly the same as a Fox Mustang. The '78 Fairmont is the oriignal Fox chassis that the '79 Mustang was derived from. The 4 cyl & 8 cyl cars share the same K-member, but the inline 6 cyl K-member is different and won't work with a V8.

When they came out in 1978 my mom saw a magazine ad for them. She took it to the local Ford dealer and said I want this car. When they told her they had a couple in different colors she said no, I want one like the one in the ad. Silver with a red interior a red stripes. A week later she was driving her new car. 8 years later she spotted a T-bird she wanted.

I always thought they were a great looking car, the Futura version anyway.

I've had 3 of them, 4 if you count the Zephyr. The red car won the track championship in '87. It had a 302 & C4, Mustang GT rear axle and quad-shocks, 15" 5-lug wheels, shaved trunk lid, a rear-mounted Lincoln LSC power antenna, Fairmont turbo hood scoop, & A/C.

Prior to meeting my wife, she had an AMC Pacer, followed by a Dodge Aspen Super Coupe. After we met, I got her away from the dark side and into a 1980 Futura.

Futura w/ Zephyr fenders or Zephyr w/ Futura Grill?

Yep...I learned that one the hard way. I made the 6 cyl one work, after some cutting and some welding. Ended up using 1957 Chevy rubber motor mounts or something like that.

so im guessing this car has allot of memorys for everybody,i know these are good drag cars for being so light.now i dont wanna get too radical with this car, maybe just beef the suspension up to ride better.but in the long run lets say i do wanna toss a 302/351 inside it.will it be worth getting the car if i have to modify the k-member???

The K-member is the same as a Fox Mustang. Just get one from a bone yard, or even an aftermarket tubular one. With that foundation, everything else will be a breeze. Exhaust, engine mounts, etc.

Its actually a Zephyr ...being converted to a Fairmont ...everything is done but the fenders, and they will be swapped before its painted.

I always like the little "fins" on the Zephyr fenders. I had wished I had put them on my Fairmount.
