14inch wheel fitment

I was under my car tonight doing some work to it and I noticed that my magnum 500's are super tight around my front brake calipers(got disc brake up front), I did a little research and read that the early wheels were not designed to be used on disc brake cars, the stock steels that were on it back when fisrt I got it were not as snug as the magnums, I have been considering swapping out the wheels anyway so I can give my car a diffent look but I wonder if aftermarket wheels will give my brake calipers more room so they dont scrub the inside of the wheel like they have aparently been doing, I would like to use the same size wheel and tire size that I am now so I dont throw my speedo off

Ford made 14" steel disc brake wheels.. they came stock and are also found on the Granada.. I have them so I can use my stock wheel covers

 

wish I hadnt let my dad tare mine up and throw them out. I coulda at least found some ford center caps to put on them.

 

Magnum 500 wheels should fit, no problem, on a disc brake Maverick. They will be real close to the caliper, but should not rub. It could be some casting flash left over on the calipers. You can grind them down a little to clean that up.

I have 14X7 magnums on the Sprint, and 74 mav disc brakes...They rubbed on the rectangular boss on top of the calipers. A few minutes with a grinder and all was right with the world...They are close,no doubt about it...

 

I have a similar question, I have the factory steel 14x6's from the 73 (drum brakes), they will be going on the 76 (disc brakes).

1. Will these rub the caliper?

2. Can I use a .250-.300 wheel spacer to move the wheel away from the caliper?

I swapped '77 front disk brakes onto my '72. The '72 drum brake wheels would not go over the disk hub. Had to get the disk brake wheels with larger center holes.

Wheels don't get mentioned in a lot of the disk brake swap discussions but you gotta change them too.

That figures! I have the factory disc brake wheels on the 76, but the good tires (235-60-15 Firestone Firehawks w/ about 30 miles on them) are on the 73 wheels!
