Bought a new to me truck today. Its a 95 f150 2wd, short bed, 5.0, auto, 3.08 gear. This is going to be the mavs tow truck eventually. I'm thinking it may need a better gear though. Plans for it as of right now are tune-up, headers with true duals, rear lowering shackle to level it out. Here's the only pic of it right now (my aunt really wanted me in the pic)
Thought about that. Will probably get something like these http://www.shockwarehouse.com/site/mon_loadlevel.cfm if those don't fix it guess I'll just put the stock shackles back on. I wont have a trailer til probably next year any way. I looked at the tag on the diff it said 3 08 on it. I did check earlier, that year they were available with a 3.08 or a 3.55. I'd like a 3.73, I figure since it has od it wont be turning too high on the highway.
Trucks are supposed to be raked, lowering your back end is a sin. And, the 5.0s tow awesome, I towed my friends E350 van stuffed FULL of car parts, sheet metal, and other random junk. Silly Bronco didn't even hardly notice there was over 10,000 lbs behind it.
I know the back is supposed to be higher, but I think it would look better level. It would be but with a boosted app. at the drag strip there's always the possibility that something will break. It's not a matter of if but when.
On my 90 i had i tried to get rid of the rake i used 87-99 chevy 1500 shackes cause they are avalible in 3" and there cheaper i did have to trim some off of there height and still had to use some twist in spring spacers up front to level it out to where i was happy
Figured that, thats why i said where i was happy with it The front springs on these trucks sag and thats why they all start to get a heavy rake
The biggest problem with lowering the back so its pretty close too even with the front is when you drive the back end gets pushed down far enough that your nose sticks up in the air... and that just looks really really wrong
The truck will still have a bit of rake with a lowering shackle. I just don't want the back end like 5" higher then the front. To me that looks just as bad as the other way round.
