I hadn't realized that these were tilt-forward hoods.

I liked AMC cars also. I had an AMX that I liked a lot! The only one of the models I never liked was the " butt ugly " Pacer!
Every auto maker had a " butt ugly "! We ought to start a poll on what everyone thinks Fords was!!! :thumbs2:

While I would agree that many of those later AMC's were styled with an ugly stick.. they are prime candidates for engine swaps.

Bolt, chain, or weld in a 390 or 401 and you have an instant lightweight hotrod. Plus, most of those later models will probably never be considered "desirable" by collectors anyways(at least the ones that are used up and not worth the money to restore).. so you can chop the hell out of them to do what you want and have fun. If anything.. it usually ends up making them even more desirable since they can get out of their own way after all the work is done. lol

The impact that a cheap ugly car running a $2,000 drivetrain(or less) beating up on higher dollar Camaro's and Mustang's is absolutely priceless IMHO.. and I dig POS sleepers for that very reason. :)

The 68-70 AMX and the 68-70 Javelins are some of my favorite cars of all time. (yes they are different cars the AMX is a two seater with a 97 inch wheelbase with the intention of competing with stuff like the vettes, the Javelin is a four seater with a 109 inch wheelbase made to compete with the pony cars.... the 2 door maverick has a 103" wheelbase.)

The one on the left is an 68 AMX the one on the right is a 68 Javelin..
