Will a 15x8, 4.25 inch back space, rim fit the front of the Maverick without rubbing and look alright? The tire size will be 225-60's. Thanks, Ken
I don't think it will look alright. I personally never cared for wide tires on the front of classic cars.
That might be too much backspacing in the front for a full turn.. I know it was when I test fit some 235-60-14's on a 7" rim with 4.25" backspacing. They hit the frame rail.
Mine too. My fronts are Mopar 15 X 7 Police car wheels with about that backspace and fit fine with 235/60/15 tires.
Craig, can you help me with the back spacing on a 1975 Comet. I want to install a deep dish rim with 245 or 265/60R15 tires? Thanks .
I seem to recall Mavericks can take a maximum of 4 1/2" backspacing on the rear. I don't know for sure, and I am sure there are some more knowledgable threads and people on this message board than me when it comes to wheel backspacing. Sorry I am not much help.
That gives me a start. The first Maverick I had . I purchased a set of Firestone mags from a friend . I put those on my sons 1964 Fairlane . I just can't remember the back spacing. Thank you.
I have 15x8 Weld Draglites, with 4-1/2 inner spacing, on the rear of my '73. That is all That is all that will fit, without a spacer, between the wheel and brake drum. You have to take into account, the tire sidewall. I have to say that it does fit well. It is tucked underneath the fenderwell, nicely, with 265/50/15. I could even lower the rear of the car, if I wanted to, without scrubbing issues.
I had to run 1/2" spacers to run a 15x8" w/4-1/2" backspace on the rear with a 235/60-15 to prevent the tire from rubbing the leaf springs. Now that I have a Granada rear-end, the spacers are no longer necessary.
On the rear... 275/60 will fit but with the 4.5 BS you will have to put a spacer on one or both sides depending on how your rear fits your car. I have had a few and the rears all set differently. I had a set of Ansen Mags 15 x 8.5 with 3.5 BS and the 255/60s' did not hit on the outside. Pick the tire you want and adjust the rim for fitment. a 15 x 8 with 4 in BS (in MY opioion) is optimum with MOST tire sizes On the front. I like 215/60 on a 5 inch rim (3in BS) or 225/? maybe on a 6 inch (3.5in BS) hope this helps
These cars are funny. I run that exact combo with no spacers and have no rubbing issues. I do wish I had gone with 4" BS when I bought the rims though.. I'd prefer they be out farther. So, I will be adding spacers at some point, probably when I go to a wider tire. The 235's don't look near as good on a 8" rim as they did on a 7" rim (mine anyway).
I would like to see the maverick sometime when I get back to topeka area.. be sometime late summer, got a buddy in Atchison with his maverick, gonna have to take a cruise
