Well, its that time of the year, the field mice are looking to move into my nice, cozy shop. Thought i would share my idea to welcome my seasonal visitors with others who may have the same "guests". Every winter resort should have a swimming pool. I used a five gallon pail, a coat hanger, and an empty can with a lid. Drill the can, and the pail/bucket so the can spins on the coat hanger. Coat the can with peanut butter, add 3 or so inches of water. lay a board against the side for easy access (diving board). And let your little furry guests have some privacy. Leave the can below the lip, so they jump onto it. Just post your "no lifeguard on duty" sign, and your all set. Before long your "pool" will be pretty crowded. Hope someone finds this useful.
better than them carrying the poison off somewhere then when the summer comes you wonder where that AUWEFUL smell is coming from
Also don't have to worry about pets/ kids getting into the poison. My favorite aspect is not having to reset & re-bait a spring trap every time.
That is a fun way to welcome the little beasties ................. They invade my shop too this time of year, unless I'm painting, then they stay far away. I have about 6 of the spring traps around the shop all with peanut butter. They seem to come in groups. A week can go by without a nibble and then WHAM, 3 of them in one night. A friend swears by the sonic device for his storage shed but I am always skeptical on gimmick devices like this.
I had a Maverick I just bought that was full of mice. I used spring traps, but all they would do would lick the trap clean of all the peanut butter, without tripping the trap at all. One night they even tripped the trap...and then ate all the peanut butter. After a week of providing a peanut butter buffet for the "herd"...I went to the hardware store and spent $7 on a trap that the mouse has to walk inside, trips the door and traps it inside. Caught three in less than 24 hours. Caught another one last weekend. Hopefully, I have them all now.
I use the...board, bucket and bait but I am a catch and release person. there is an old fallen in house a couple miles down the road where I release them to feed the snakes...
