I was checking out a hot wheel site and they listed the top 10 rarest hot wheels. The mad maverick was listed as #4.:bananamanThey had a short article on what the first one led too. I happened to look at my shelf and I HAVE ONE. Wooo Hooo! The only problem is the wing is broken off of mine. Otherwise it is in great shape. Does anyone else have a complete one in their collection? As soon as I can I'll post pics of mine.

Yup!:yup: I believe it is only $5 for two of them. (1) black and (1) white.

Yours actually says "Mad Maverick" on the bottom? There are only 2 known to exist.

Mattel changed the name, since JL came out with Mad Maverick, first..so any HW with "Mad" on the bottom is a prototype.

I didn't know the wing was available on ebay. Thanks. I double checked on mine and it says mighty maverick from mattell 1969. I thought it was the mad maverick. Thanks for the info. It made me double check. I will check out the replacement wing too.
It is still cool that it is one of the rarest cars. Does anyone have the actual mad maverick?

I would say that the folks that have a Mad Maverick would have had a direct line to prototype HWs back in the day. I doubt that any ever made it to packaging and general release.

While on the subject, here is my rainbow of Mighty Mavericks and Street Snorters....

    Earl,
If you have a Mad Maverick, I'll give you $58 for it. That is all that is in my checking account right now. The water bill will be late, but sacrifices need to be made ...:p :biglaugh:

What I am surprised is not on that list is called a "Kidney Bean Base" Camaro.
It was green and the first released car. The holes in the chassis were kidney shaped instead of square.

I would swear that I had that one. I got it within the first week that they were in stores and I recall the chassis being different than my other cars. All my first HWs went to my younger cousin when I was 16, so it is lost to time now. That kid pounded those things into the dirt. I thought about running around his old house with a metal detector....

There are less than 10 kidney bean Camaros known to collectors currently. There were a lot more made, but most of them got used up. They changed that first casting several times while working some bugs out and there are about 8 variations in that Camaro through it's production of just two years. The kidney bean was changed to the square hole pretty quickly, probably due to improved manufacturing techniques.

His info on the white Camaro is a bit sketchy. Don't know where he is quoting from, but I heard from several sources that the white enamel Camaro was mid-run, not the first offering. One main feature of the earliest HWs was candy paint (certainly not enamel). They did make some in white, but when they packaged them, they almost disappeared on the shelf card. They didn't grab your eye like the other brighter colors. The decision was made to just offer them in a track set as one of the included cars to get rid of the ones produced, and not many were made.

When I get home I'll look for the Maverick, and see if I am correct. I believe I am. If so, might consider selling it, wait and see.

According to that link only 4 are known to exist .. so if you have number 5 .. I would think you are looking at $50,000 car!
