My new bar showed up yesterday. Just the bar, no hardware. The ends are rotated 90 degrees like the should be.
I contacted Sarah at Addco this morning about tracking number for my replacement bar, mine was shipped out on June 26th with arrival date of July 3rd to WA., so I gather that all other bars where shipped out the same time........
I got home today, to a UPS tag, asking for $124....so I'm into $500 for the sway bars, plus shipping, then $65 duty the first time, and now another $124...Wow..they should have shipped them with a zero dollar value, since they were replacements.
i got mine today. they look right this time. no hardware as expected. i know mashori and jear30200 did not get the original defective bars so they wont have the hardware. i dont know if anybody else didnt get the original defective ones but i would like every body to be aware of this possibility.
Got mine on Monday. With the exception of very high-end quality parts, I usually always paint factory coated stuff anyways(old painters "quality peeves" never die).. but my bar/s have thin'ish/rough coating on the ends and some extra corrosion protection sure wouldn't hurt anything. So, I'd rec' additional prep and paint work for anyone driving/storing them.. and/or in inclement weather very often.
Got mine today. Bar only. Not happy that they did not include the frame reinforcement for the rear that I discussed with John. So, do the first bars they sent us fit anything or are they just garbage? Micah
You can purchase "U" Brackets from Scott Drake as mentioned in my post #161 to make the 1st front bar work or I just fabricated a pair of brackets out of angle iron so the mounting holes are verticle and this worked out fine, but I also had to purchase shorter 3/8" UNF bolts in order for the heim joints to attach, since the supplied 6" are way too long. In another of my earlier posts, I think I mentioned that 3" bolts would be about right. So I would say the bars are worth keeping for now, keep in mind you would have to purchase another hardware kit from Addco, along with purchasing or fabricating set of angle iron adapters. Perhaps there are other members who would be interested in purchasing these 1st run bars and doing the mods themselves? Another possiblity would be to drill out the 3/8" hole to 5/8" and then OEM type end links can be used. I would have to examine to see if there is enough material to safely drill out to 5/8", I think there is (remember, if you look at your OEM bar end links, the forged eye is not very thick!) but it may only be possible to drill out one hole and not all three, so would not be adjustable, but still would be 1 1/8" bar! This would be the quickest way to make this bar "usable" and can be sold to other members and thus reduce your overall cost of these bars! My replacement arrived this afternoon in WA, so I will pick it up on Friday because of 4th July holiday and then check to see if just the ends where corrected or if any other changes where done....... OK, I was trying to be patient with Addco and give them the benefit of getting this right, but, I must say, I’m pissed. First off, I am two months behind schedule for tearing down my car because of this bar. I needed to fit the rear bar to get the location in order to weld in the frame support. Today, I went out to mock up the rear bar. This is what I see: 1. The Heim joints are fine thread and all the hardware is course. 2. You will need to buy two fine thread 3 ½”x 3/8 bolts. 3. You will need to buy two fine thread 3/8 jam nuts. 4. I was shorted eight course 3/8 lock nuts. I looked in the hardware bag for the front bar. All the hardware is course thread and the Heim joint is fine thread. So, I assume I will need two fine thread 6” x 3/8 bolts, two fine thread jam nuts and whatever else may have been shorted. Plus, I we never got the added support bracket for the rear that John promised me. I will have to get that made up.
Ummm dont look now but it gets worse. The new bar is even more useless than the first one they sent. It appears they forgot to put the last bend in thee ends of it. Shouldnt the ears be horizontal and not near vertical? Here is another thing... shouldnt the adjustable ends be parallel to each other rather than spreading further apart? Im at the end of my patience with this. Dont really know what to do now. I'll be trying to get them on the phone ASAP. What is it Afco is known for making again??? Coat hangers?
wow, this sucks. im betting afco is going to be regretting doing this project. hopefully the third time will be the charm if they will give this a third attempt. i feel for the guys who are held up by these not being right the first time. at least my car is far from these being installed.
I called and left him a msg today. Hopefully he'll get the msg and call me first thing in the morning.
