What is the most popular make of frame connectors that guys are using? Any forum member making them? Working on a 1977.
Either alstons or chassis engineering connectors. There is a fella here on the forum...(toporanger) Who has a set in the works, along with a very nice custom belly bar and export brace that are available now.
A member that used to frequent here made me a set out of galvanized pipe. Just a couple of slight bends, and cut the ends at an angle.
Sorry John, I had a busy weekend, and didn't get a chance to email you. I have the Chassis Engineering weld in, ones. They seem to fit well, but fit better, with some trimming.
I used Chassis Engineering Sub Frame Connectors. I am going a different route as far as mounting points. I am going to put a cross member in the back with a rear trans safety loop kinda like the picture below And with the picture above, I am going to build brackets for a lower link mounting spot. Then going to build "frame" extension for the Top link (doing a triangulated 3 link) Sorta like this pic below
and to make a side comment. I got them damn near identical mounting spot. I think I was off 1/16th of a inch both forward, and side to side (based off of rear frame rail). Was pretty proud, I measured once, and cut once lol...
Think it was 2x2 or 2 1/4 x 2 1/4... I should be home (currently in Louisianan) in a week or so and could give you the exact number...
While I'm assuming most people using sub frame connectors are building race cars or strong street strip cars, I've often wondered if adding them to a purely street driven car woulkd stiffen up up the car and reduce any groaning and/or creeking from unibody flex over rough road. Opinion/experience?
