I considered it but it's a waste of time too. It's going to take more effort than putting on a new belt to tell me the same thing. I'm not going to fix the motor if it doesn't work. So either the belt goes on and the engine runs, or I'm putting in a new to me engine. The only nice thing I've seen so far about this timing belt, is that I only have to put the valve cover back on to run the engine. I just don't know what I'm doing with the leak down test. Whereas I've changed out timing belts on lots of stuff. I'm an industrial mechanic so I play to my strengths. And spending a buncha time out in the cold trying to figure out things sounds not enjoyable. (also I have to consider these days the amount of wrench turning I do. My carpal tunnel has gotten severe) The other thing is, as long as the engine runs, even if its loud and knocky. I just need it to last another month or 2. The car isn't actually worth the effort. It's a Honda wagon that has reached that point where you have to decide, put $4k into this car, or get a newer one for $2k. I did blow compressed air through the spark plugs, but I didn't know what I was listening for. Also I think I need to get a new hose for my compressor.
I would put the balancer back on also. You would be suprised how fast the belt comes off if it even tries to. Don't ask how I know..
