1.) What is the advantage/difference in industrial vs. automotive fittings? 2) Will these fitting mate w/o loosing pressure? 3.) Should the drain fitting be left open during off-peak/winter storage?
Pick the fitting that is most readily available in you area. Neither will flow better than the other it's just a way for manufacturers to have a captive item back in the day. We sell equal amounts of bkoth styles.

If you use an HVLP spray gun or an impact, you should step up to high flow fittings. There is a marked difference between these and "regular" style fittings. I tested my DeVilbiss Finishline III gun with regular fittings and the air valve full open and could not get the recommended 23 PSI at the cap. After switching the high flow fittings, my air valve is about 1/3 open. And this is with a 7.5HP, 29 CFM compressor with 3/4" piping...
Thks for the info Russ! Nice compressor setup! At this point I don't plan on an impact. I have an elec. and batt power ones. My setup is probably not up to using the air-hungry accessories, but at least I know, am aware of the hi-flow fittings.
I use all commercial grade fittings on my compressor so I have enough air when needed. It will depend on the compressor you have an the tools you use. I use a 2 stage compressor with a 80 gallon tank an it has a 7 1/2 hp motor. Great for sand blasting an painting cars . The fitting I use are 3/8. I hope that I have helped you. Good luck.
