From John at Addco: Micah, I just spoke to my production manager and he stated that the bars are breaking when he's putting the last bend on the forge, he's broken 4 bars. I wanted to see if your group would just take a larger 1.125" bar with a regular forge on the bar, if not I can refund everyone's money. I've built a few bars in the larger diameter and it made a huge difference in the handling and the customers were very satisfied. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience!! Thank you, John Wright What is the consensus? I say go with the larger one. Lets get a vote and I will reply to John. Micah
I am fine with larger bar with regular ends, just make sure that we get all the correct mounting hardware/end links! David (dyent)
Oh wow, I kinda walked away after I recieved my 2nd front bar. There was a problem with that one too and we're getting a 3rd one now? I'm down with the regular ends on the large bar.
Chris, Since you are the one that initiated this, what is your take on the deal? It sounds like they were able to make something up for you that worked but now when it comes to production, they aren't able to do it. I tried to see if I could get us an Addco T-shirt or a hat for all the wait and frustration. I dont think I got anywhere with that. It was worth a shot. Anyone else who placed an order want to pull out or have an issue with the larger bar? Speak now. Otherwise, come Monday, I will tell him to go with the bigger bar. Micah
1.125 and 1 1/8 is the same diameter. You guys will not get a larger diameter bar from what you were originally expecting but different forged material. That is what I get out of that email.
The bar we were supposed to get had a custom end on it that allowed it to be adjusted for different rates. It would have been nice to adjust it to personal tastes or driving conditions. They did give it a shot, the two failed attempts that they sent was a costly testimony to that. They made a similar one for the rear which some of us have already installed. What they are now offering is something that is larger than what they list in their catalogue. Better, but not what we had all hoped for. Micah
Might as well keep the mistake bar. Its essentially the same as what he is offering. Make your frame mounts adjustable, buy a pair of end links that fit and use it. Chris Altson and Ridetech both sell end links that should work. They are not cheap but might be worth looking in to. And... you can still have a little adjustabillity. The bar I have can be functionally adjustable but will take some modifications to my lower control arm mounting points to make it so. Its just about 2 inches too long to be right. Sounds like they are have trouble making the bends tight enough to bring it down were it needs to be on such a short arm. http://www.cachassisworks.com/p-2817-endlink-inline-472-center-tra.aspx http://www.ridetech.com/store/12-mm-straight.html
Chris, Thanks for the input. My bar has been getting knocked around in the junk pile out back for the last few months. I'm not interested in putting it on the car. I say we just let them make up what they offered. If you have the mistake bar, you can do what ever you want with it. Micah
Today I sent an email to John at Addco instructing him to go ahead with the larger bar. I reminded him to include the correct mounting hardware. I asked him to provide an expected shipping date. I did not receive a reply as of today. I will update if I do. Micah
I'll have to send him an email and remind him how to ship the third order, so I don't have to pay another $120 in brokerage fees...
I smell burnt shoe rubber from all the feet dragging that's been going on with this thing. I'd think it would have been much easier to get one made after all these months considering they already have smaller versions in the catalog to work off of. It's not like a completely new suspension that needs to be designed around.
