Well we decided to keep up with our father/son project and maybe along the way some of ya'll can get a good laugh as we hope to look back at where we started, what we endured both with hard work and $$$, but hopefully alot of good memories of a Dad and his Son building him a car that he will always have and remember many good times spent with Dad :ratrod:

Attached are pics of the car as it was when we first got it.

another pic and a sound clip of the motor at high idle, what do ya'll think, sound healthy? this was before the lifter/cam issue:( had to link to sound clip as they don't upload sound bytes.

I wish you and your son good luck with you project. Looks like you have a good start, Sorry to read about you cam and left issues, but I am sure you will work through them.
My son and myself are doing a 73 Grabber for him to. It has been on hold all winter due to the cold where we live. Spring is around the corner and we hope to have it done this spring late. I too hope my son will have fond memeories of this project and his car and the time we spent together in the garage. It started out as just a motor rebuild then got way out of control till it ended up being almost a total restoration project.
Again good luck with it all and have fun together doing it, that is what this hobby is all about.

    lol

Yeah the car is pretty straight however it needs all AC components reinstalled, PS, PB with disc conversion, complete new interior, all new bushings, bearings, struts, custom built dash with gauges, new rear gears with locker, stall, new floor pan in trunk then pad and carpet, floor pan on pass side, may as well do drivers also as it's getting there, then the custom paint, then the stereo....I'm sure I'm missing alot.

Yes we have a fairly solid car to start with but really want this to be a show level car....unsure if it's more for me or him, lol

The body looks really good and solid. Have you poured any water down the cowl vents yet??? Good luck with your build! There's always something special about a father-son build, no matter how the car ends up!

Not to rub salt in wounds or anything.. but since I'm as "from the hip as they come".. I'll comment on the question. While 224/234 is healthy for a little motor.. it sounds like it's loading up a bit and could/should be running a bit smoother.

Bigger cams often like tons of initial advance mixed with additional manifold vacuum advance supplementation. If manifold vacuum is below about 14 inches at around 900-1,000rpm?.. keep tuning until it peaks. ;)

    sound

I meant to say this was before I knew about the shot lifter, between that and the carb is not set right it probably doesn't sound too good to a trained ear. And I'm grateful to any and all input. FYI vacumn is right at 14 at 700 rpm

    Yes

YES I turned a water hose on those vents, it has a rusted out trunk pan, front floor pans are going but cowl has no problems.....thankfully

Yes, you are very fortunate - I think the cowls and torque boxes are the toughest fix and the biggest rust through problems :)

    Update

Ok I know it's taking a while but we are on a roll now, got very fortunate on the roller motor we picked up, took to machine shop and it is a very low mile 92 block, didn't need anything but crank polished, still stock bore, had deck checked, heads, honed, all of it.

Machinist was surprised at the great condition, we are checking and double checking every step of the way, as of right now we had checked the mains with mic then with plasti guage, perfect....my son has decided the color of his car is going to be black with orange trim, hence the "hemi orange" block. Rings and other parts due Tuesday so should have motor assembled, here id how she stands right now.
