My uncle bought a '71 Comet GT back in December. We have been slowly working on the car over the last 6 months getting it ready to take to the Ford Nationals in Carlisle, PA next month.

We have added 15" Magnum 500 wheels, complete 2 1/2" dual exhaust, correct Comet GT grille, NOS hood emblem, NOS deluxe gas cap, NOS Mercury decklid emblem, new door handles, new door sill plates, new trunk mat, new door and trunk weatherstripping and chrome air cleaner. We have replaced the steering wheel with one we restored and have buffed and redid the front headlight doors. I also found him a really nice used set of vinyl top trim and boomerangs.

We got a friend of ours to respray the door jams, trunk and under the hood (due to fading) along with doing a nice detail under the hood.

Here are a few before pics.

Wow, those are great pictures. What a car. Where on earth did you find a NOS hood emblem?

Looking good! Makes me want to take my 73 Comet to Carlisle too. Don't know if I'll make it this year or not...

Really nice ... the yellow and black combo looks great. The vinyl top adds to the car too. :thumbs2:

Thanks guys!! Several parts we have used we have bought here from fellow forum members. Items like the GT grille, vinyl top chrome, and boomerangs that I can remember right off.

    Thanks!

I just recently bought a '73 Comet, I wish mine was a GT too!

    Thanks!!

I found it on Ebay. Got it for a good price too!!

    Thanks!!

    Come on out to Carlisle!

    Thanks!!

At first when I found the car for my uncle on Ebay he didn't really like the vinyl top, but after getting the car and getting it more like he wants it he said he thinks this particular color combo looks better with the black top. I agree.

    Your car is amazing.
What size tires do you have? Did a 71GT have the slatted grill? I thought it was a 72 only thing..

Thanks!! The tires are 235/60/15 all the way around on 15x7 Magnums.

Your car looks like a VERY solid body to start from. As far as I know the '71 had that grille. The GT grille that we got came from a fellow forum member's uncle's '71 GT. The grille that was in my uncle's car when we got it was in good shape, it was just painted solid black.
