I installed the ballast resistor and i closed the points but when tried to crank it the solenoid clicked and everything died. I replaced the solenoid but still same problem. When this happens my lights and everything do not work, i have to disconnect the battery and reconnect it and everything works again untill i try to crank it again. What could be the problem?

You don't have it wired in correctly. Please explain how you wired in the ballast resistor exactly.

And the points shouldn't be *closed* necessarily. Getting points set can be kind of tricky.

I think you need a volt meter.

sounds like a bad battery cable connection. if you use a voltmeter you can isolate the problem by following the voltage. start on the battery posts then move one meter end to the the cable terminal then to the other end of the terminal and on through the circuit. then do the other cable the same way. you will find where the voltage disappears and know what to replace

I fixed the problem turns out i had a wire touching the red/green wire and i was over amping, now i am just getting my timing sorted out.
