I have a 1974 Comet GT. I believe it would be nice to save it rather than sending it to the scrap yard.

The challenge is to create a group to organize and follow through with a build up of the car.

It would be nice to get feed back of pitfalls and success of the potential project. What do you all think?

I like the sounds of the idea! I suppose one could theoretically gather enough parts and labour through volunteers, but there will come a time when some cash is gonna need to be spent. Will this be for a charity auction, or are you just looking for people to help build the car, or just on-line suggestions, etc on 'how' to build it.

I think you need to have a better "plan" (i.e. how and what) before you'll get a group established. I like the idea though. Were you thinking of trying to get sponsors or anything??

There was a car club in Michigan that built a Comet GT that belonged to a club member who had passed away. It turned out real nice, and they auctioned it off to raise money for charity. Is this similar to what you're thinking?

My idea is to donate title of the car to the project. Liability is a concern. I am good with doing a not for profit.Time and Labor would be free. Everyone would have to agree to cost and put in their share.

My vision for the car would be to make it into a 1/4 mile racer as floors are rusty. needs to be tubed ,framed, role bars, front and rear sus.,Engine, trans, interior. Wheels, paint ect..

I would like to see it in car shows and raced. It would really be up to the group of what would happen to the car in the end.

I think this has been tried a few times in the past. I don't remember the outcome.

even with a 10K budget it would be hard to find 10 people that would donate 1K each and their labor...

I guess I don't understand only two options.. Surely someone would buy it before crushing it.. I would say it should get fixed up by whatever means, group or individual. Slowly these cars are disappearing.

No, I don't remember it happening either. I do remember someone looking for donations, a couple actually. One was basically wanting to build making it a group funded project IIR. And the other was a scam. Claimed some sort of tragedies or something happened and needed parts or money.. He was called out.

I remember the one that was a group funded rebuild of a car a guy named Jim I believe I gave many parts to him for the recreation of the car named Phoenix he got busted by a group of van people.

To do what you want to do is a great idea but I fear that it would never be completed as it is hard enough to get a bunch of Maverick people together more less get them to work on a car that will take time and money of which both are precious, I could see it possible happen in a more Maverick populated area like Georgia but even then it would be a long time project

I wish you luck in finding a group, could be pretty hard to do though.

If you decide to scrap it, I would be interested in the hood scoop.
