That's what I told him. He thought it wasn't nice enough to show. I told him it doesn't need to be perfec . Just come have fun with it. You never see Mavericks that rare color of blue.

I'm ready to drag mine out of my garage, chained to my SUV, and take it for a ride on it's frame rails and his was ready to go at the turn of the key - would have driven me crazy having it sitting :)

    Bob,

It was a shame to let it sit. That is one of the things that made me decide to do something with it along with Coop continuously pushing me to do something. Plus I sort of let life get in the way of having fun. I had been real busy with work taking at least 50 plus hours a week, helping the kids get established in this world as young adults, home remodels, etc, etc. I could let the list go on and on as far as reasons that I did not do anything with it. My heart was there but the time was not. So I regrouped some and made some changes with the work schedule and I am now having some fun with it.

My son has earned the car to a degree. He has been helping me with the restoration of our 73 Grabber we have been doing from the ground up over the last few years. He drove this maverick for about 2 years before it sat for the two years as his first car and fell in love with it. He loved the attention he got with it and the girls too. I know he has a lot of memories with this car from when he first started driving. Like we all have ourselves. So I thought why not just give him this one and let him enjoy it now while he is still young and does not have the burden of life all over his back. Hopefully he will keep it. It has given me great pleasure to be able to share this hobby with him and that he has found it interesting enough to share his time with me to work on these cars. There are memories that will never be forgotten that is for sure.

    Thanks
    Allen Small

That car is beautiful, my car is originally light blue (3B) and i was thinking of going a different color because i didnt think the black stripes would look good with it but after seeing yours i am rethinking on the paint and maybe making it light blue again. Once again beautiful car man :thumbs2:

Allen, did you ever make use of that short block you bought from me years ago?

    Barry,

No I still have it wrapped in plastic under the work bench. My son is going to take it and have and Edelbrock top end kit placed on it here soon (heads, cam intake and carb setup). At least that is his plan for it. He is wanting more power than what he has now and I told him that would be out of his pocket, not mine.

I did get the rear window louvers installed on it this weekend and think they look good on it. Still need to drop the rearend about 1" to and 1 1/2" and the stance I think will be just right for it.

I did double check and it is a 3B paint code for it.

    Thanks

Having run the Edelbrock top end kit myself I would recommend he buy the heads and intake separately and purchase a different, better cam. Edelbrock cams are pretty crappy and over priced. They don't design or grind their own cams. They buy someone else's, rebox it and double the price.

Thanks for the heads up on their cams. I will pass the info along to him.

Thanks for the compliment on the Grabber Dave. I can't believe I let is sit for almost two years with out doing anything to it or even driving it much. I would start it up and drive it around the block a couple of times every other month or so. I guess I let other things become more important. But that has all changed now. I did take it out for about a two hour cruise yesterday before the storms hit. Actually had a lady ask me to pull over so she could take a picture of it. A lot of people pull up beside it and tell me what a nice car it is but no one has ever asked me to pull over. Thanks again.

The rear window louvers are off another maverick that I use to have many, many years ago. I saved them from the car when it was sold and have been storing them for all this time. They were made specifically for the maverick and sold through JC Whitney back in the late 70's and 80's. The company is long out of business and these are no longer available that I am aware of anywhere else. I think there are about 5 or 6 pairs known to exist around the US and maybe one pair in Germany which I think Tody has them. Very hard to come by, but they do pop up once in awhile for sale on ebay, but it is very rare they do.

    Thanks

Nice looking car! Love the louvres!
I'm curious, why did you have to get it inspected? Weren't you allowed by law to drive it unless you fulfilled that requirement? Is it because it's an old car? Or is it more like a pollution thing? :hmmm:
