I need some quick advice. I was just about to paint my 1971 Maverick Yesterday. After looking at a spray out, it appeared way too red. I think I have mistaken Calypso Coral (M1730) for Grabber Orange (M3659A). I was not comfortable with what I saw on the internet for Grabber Orange, but I think I was looking at the modern Mustangs which are way too yellow. See attached picture. I am looking for the color on the right (Grabber). In the middle is my Calypso Coral spray out which looks like the car on the left. Can anyone confirm/help. I am using PPG paints.

All I have is PPG DBC 60449. I am driving up to the paint distributor in about an hour to look at options. The paint shop is on hold for me!

If I am not mistaken, isn't Calypso Coral and Grabber Orange the same color?

I painted my car Vista Orange (1977 Ford color) because I wanted my car to be ORANGE!!!

Looks Like the Calypso Coral - Grabber Orange is much closer to school bus and taxi cab yellow.

Here are 2 pictures of the 2 colors

My grabber is painted Calypso, I wasn't crazy about it at first but it looks really orange when out in the sun. It's grown on me and I really like it.....

Here's a pic of my car in the shade and one in the sun.....same car.

FWIW I'm fairly certain that Calypso Coral and Grabber orange aren't the same, I am be mistaken though. I know Calypso was never an option for the Mavericks, but it was for same - year mustangs cyclones and torinos, I think? At least in 1971?

THOSE are the two colors I was thinking as being the same!!

    See above.

As Eric said....Grabber orange is more of a "yellow" color.

Here is an all original Grabber orange:

OK, I spent the day at the paint supplier and got these 4 options to choose from. First, thanks for all the help and every color looks good (especially Calypso Coral in the sun). However, I am totally convinced I had a 1970 grabber that was somewhere between the Calypso Coral and Grabber Orange. It must be forever lost, cause nobody has a 1969/70 Ford chip between the two (or I have lost my mind). I have both Maverick colors below labeled. I'm leaning strongly to he second from left to bring out a little more orange (probably close to the Vista Orange shown above). Thanks again. I would still take advice if someone knows what my lost color might be. (Keep in mind these colors vary somewhat from what I see with my eyes, sun to shade etc). Orange (2).JPG

At least you are taking the time to figure it out, some people get excited and just go with what they thing it should be..then it's not.. I like the two on the right.
Just stay away from " Acapulco Blue" there are four different shades of it...don't ask me how I know..

I vote for Calypso Corral, it pops. I am painting my 64 Falcon wagon that color so I may be a little prejudice

I just checked our paint chip books for 1969 and 1970 and there are only two orange colors listed for those years: Calypso Corral and Grabber Orange. There is also another color in the book called Thanks Vermillion which appears to be more of a red than an orange. It is a nice color, but Calypso Corral is more of a true orange color which does make it stand out in a crowd.
