I do not care for the side strip on the Comet GT. So I was thinking of just putting the "Comet GT" on the fender without the stripe, kinda like the Boss 429 Mustang, except I want to use the outlined letters rather than the solid letters. Can anyone make that happen in this picture? Thanks

I am with you on not liking the side stripe on the early GTs .... it doesn't follow any body lines. It is just a straight slash across the car. The later GT stripes got better .... had a bit of a curve to them, but still think there is room for improvement.

I am thinking that I am going to do a hybrid stripe ... somewhere between other Mercury stripes of that time and a Grabber stripe. It would bridge the crease down the side and still have the solid/open motif like the GT stripe, which also mimics the Cyclone and Cougar stripes of the time. I just want it to fit the car better. I did an awful photoshop rendering years ago. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Mavaholic I'll photochop it for you what do you mean by "I want to use the outlined letters rather than the solid letters." I'll mess with this tonight (sunday)

Thanks a bunch. I already have a stencil for the comet GT stripe so its just a matter of cutting out the stripe. I was wanting to keep it the original size and in the original location, just without the stripe. Thanks again.

Like I said .... crappy Photoshop job ...

I was playing with a couple ideas .... color change to orange .... and a concept of "what if the Cyclone stayed with the Comet body style, instead of switching to Torino". This is more of a copy of the Cyclone stripe on a 1970 car. Cougars had a similar stripe theme, too, ... solid and open sections. I am pretty fond of how it would follow the ridge in the door and drops off so that it frames the wheelwell, without really following it.

I am still pretty likely to do something similar when the time comes, but I am more committed to sticking with green for the main paint color.
