I was talking to someone at a company that sells leafsprings, and was told that they've heard complaints from MOPAR owners (didn't mention Mavericks) about KYB rear shocks riding too harsh. Have any of you with KYB shocks had this experience with your Maverick/Comet?
They seem to ride ok to me before I replaced the leaf springs. With new 4-leaf springs the ride is now more on the harsh side but not bone jarring
I just bought kyb this past week and have them on but have yet to drive the car since Ive been doing other upgrades at the same time
I have KYB's all around. I like the ride. I had 4 leaf @ 880lb rating; my car rode really harsh. I remove the 4th. leaf and the car rides much, much better. I've had them on abt a year and wud recommend KYB'S.
I just put on 4 new monroe shocks a while back. They def ride better than the old worn out ones, but the KYB's were quite a bit more expensive.
There are 2 varieties of KYB shocks. Adjust- A- shocks can be very firm and sometimes harsh. GR-2's are more like stock and give you a very nice ride. They are also less expensive than the Adjust- A- shocks. I have several sets of the GR-2's on various cars and the ride is good. Jim
Those are the one's I have - non-adj., black shocks in dark red box. I wud buy them for any vehicle I own.
That is an old photo. The car had air-shocks (didn't know any better back then). The tires were put on there just for the photo and then taken back off (they were bias-plys).
I have KYB gas-a-just on the fronts only. Combined with polygrahite bushings in the front suspension, they are very stiff. When temps are extremely cold.....they are brutally firm and slight bumps resonate throughout the front suspension. I would like to blame it all on the polygraphite bushings, but if there was a little more suspension give on those shocks, it wouldn't be as bad.
