I started mine at 12. I went to 10, then 9 psi. Gained 60 ft times each time. I too was concerned about wobble. I did not notice any big difference between 12 and 9 as far as stability was concerned. I would think that 18 psi is why those won't hook . Rick is correct. Lower them til you get what you want. Every tire is a little different. I am running Mickey thompsons on mine.
    Good luck!

I run 14-14.5 in mine. Hooks well, and no wandering on the top end. I haven't tried lowering mine to see if I gain any 60'...might have to at some point. I've always been told by the tire manufacturers to run as much pressure as you can and still hook. I also run that exact same slick.

Maxx, what size tire are you running? 14 psi sounds high to me, but maybe not. Mickey Thompson tech bulletin says on my tires that they like higher air pressures with 8 psi being the lowest allowed. Maybe I should try higher than 10?
What kind of 60 ft times do you get with your combo if I may ask?

What gear, trans and launch rpm are you at also if you would not mind. I'm sure you have more engine and hp. Just trying to sort out where I need to adjust.
    Thanks

    Hi Paul,

    I run the Hoosier 26 x 9 mentioned by the OP. I have a 3.89 geared 9". I also run a PG now with 1.76 low gear.

I leave around 3500-4000 launch RPM. When I had the C4 in it, my best 60' was a 1.39. With the PG, it's around 1.41-1.42...pretty much negligible. Car actually ET's & MPH's a little better with the PG. I'll be changing the gears at some point, but haven't really had the time yet.

347, AFR 185.s, Homemade CalTrac's, and factory leafsprings & replacement shocks...If I ever get the car out this year, I want to get a couple of passes on it, then change to the Calvert split mono-leafs and their shocks I have sitting in the corner. When these slicks need replaced, I'll also be going with a taller tire as well. I purposely went with the shorter slick to try to help the 3.89 gear on the line...and that was with the C4. With the PG, all indications are that the gear and taller slick should help my combination out.

    Hope this helps...

60 ft times seem quite good on your car. I have not achieved anything close to that as of yet. My car seems to like a 4000 rpm launch with the pg. but my 60 fts. Have been in the 1.6- 1.65 range. At 4300 I got 1.58, and that has been the best so far. 4500 rpm launches seem to slow the car to the 1.70+ range. Lots of wheel spin.
Seeing that you are running a 9 inch tire and can get into the 1.40 range gives me hope.
I have a 4.11 gear and a 29.5 in tire, so i am fairly close to your gear /tire final ratio.
I seem to blow the tires off of it over 4500 RPMs. My next move is to get 90- 10 front shocks. I do not think I am transferring enough weight to the rear for good hook.
Btw, what kind of Et and mph you getting out of your car. It seems to be setup very close to mine with engine trans combo.
    Thanks

    Paul,

I'm running low 6.6x's, high 6.5x's in the 1/8th mile @ 102-104 mph. I also run FTI converters in both trans scenarios. Each was built specifically for the engine/trans combo.

    Maxx,
Those are really impressive numbers. Thank you for sharing. Got any idea what hp you are making? What stall do you run on the pg?
I have a powerglide with an 8 " converter and transbrake. Converter stalls at 5100 rpm. I am thinking I need a little more gear (4:56 ) to optimize my combination. I am thinking if I can get the weight right, I will be able to raise the launch speed and not spin the tires. Guess I have a lot more to work out.
    Thanks for the information!
