So I have been searching this forum and I see that most guys can't run more than 4-4.25 inch backspace. Well has anyone been able to fit a 17x8 or 9 inch wheel with a 4.5 inch backspace? There are quite a few more 4.5 backspace wheels available than 4 inch. I have a 1973 maverick with a 302 and a ford 8 inch rear.

Also, I measured my rear and I got 51" hub to hub. Is that right? There is a 53 inch 9" rear available close by and I can weld new perches on it, which would solve my backspace issue, but it is also a lot of work.

    Thanks guys

Your tires will hit the leafsprings and inner wheel housings.

Anyone know of the stock rear width hub to hub? So would a 4 inch backspace work for sure?

56.5" from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. A 4-inch backspace is about ideal with the stock rear-end width. I wouldn't go with wider than an 8-inch wheel unless modifications are planned.

I have 17x8 wheels with a 4.5" BS on mine and they do not hit, but are very close. I am going to run a 1/4 spacer and appears to be all the room I need. I couldn't get the wheels I wanted in a 4.25 back spacing, but if I ever buy another set that's what I would run. What size tire are you planning on running?
